Daniel Wallin Outlasts the Field on the Big Cube Stage in UppsalaEnglish

Inside Österledskyrkan, the rhythmic clatter of plastic mechanisms filled the bright hall as competitors gathered around the timing stations. The atmosphere in Uppsala, Sweden on May 29, 2023, carried the focused stillness unique to a high-stakes speedcubing meet. Solvers adjusted tension settings, examined scuffed plastic surfaces, and mentally rehearsed their opening turn sequences. The one-day gathering drew 17 competitors ready to test their preparation across five official events.

While short sprint formats often draw the quickest cheers, the heavier puzzles demand a grueling level of concentration. Big cubes test sheer stamina, finger strength, and mental endurance across hundreds of individual moves. Solving a massive puzzle under tournament conditions leaves no room for hesitation, as fatigue builds through every layer reduction and parity alignment. The competitors who took on the 6x6x6 Cube faced that exact test of endurance, where maintaining consistency across multiple minutes separates the podium contenders from the pack.

Daniel Wallin delivered a commanding display in the 6x6x6 Cube, navigating the complex multi-layer reductions with remarkable composure. Wallin secured first place with an impressive winning average of 2:03.65, backed by a tournament-best single solve of 1:58.21. Viktor Strindell claimed the second spot on the podium with an average of 4:29.59, while Peter Hugosson-Miller took third place with a time of 7:27.63. Wallin demonstrated a level of endurance and consistency that set the standard for the entire division.

The broader slate at Uppsalaligan 3: Vaccinium Oxycoccos - 2023 offered a versatile range of challenges, and Wallin remained the dominant figure. In the traditional 3x3x3 Cube, where 17 solvers entered the field, Wallin captured victory with a winning average of 8.56 and a top single of 7.83. Alve Carlqvist pressed closely behind, taking second place on the 3x3x3 Cube podium with an 8.93 average, while Viktor Strindell earned third place at 13.89. The classic Rubik's Cube division saw sharp 3x3 results across the board.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several solvers delivered outstanding personal milestones that captured the true spirit of speed cubing. Max Högblad Wallgren took on three events and delivered a massive leap on the 3x3x3 Cube, recording a personal best of 21.75 seconds to finish 25.4 percent faster than his previous mark of 29.15, alongside a Pyraminx personal best of 12.74 seconds and a first career official Skewb attempt of 6.54 for a 12th place finish. Erik Hendrik Liivat Uba also notched significant drops, trimming his Pyraminx personal best by 25 percent down to 5.98 seconds, lowering his Skewb mark by 13.8 percent to 8.13 seconds on the way to a 5th place finish, and setting a 3x3x3 Cube best of 15.63 seconds.

Other dedicated competitors made their mark by taking on new puzzles and rewriting their personal records. Hannes Chilleen contested four events, cutting his Pyraminx personal best by 21.6 percent to 5.44 seconds, reducing his Square-1 best by 9.2 percent to 24.16 seconds, and securing 4th place in Square-1. Dagny Harling entered three disciplines, posting an 11.2 percent improvement on Pyraminx with a 6.71 personal best, logging a first ever Skewb attempt of 14.76, and finishing 6th in the 3x3x3 Cube. Bernard Gårdenborg recorded a personal best of 5.09 on Pyraminx for a 5th place result, logged a 15.77 personal best on 3x3x3 Cube, and completed his first official Skewb solve in 9.55 seconds.

In Skewb, Daniel Wallin earned another gold with a 3.76 winning average and a 2.79 single, finishing ahead of Arvid Ahnlund Groiss at 5.84 and Alve Carlqvist at 6.50. Wallin then topped the Square-1 standings with an 11.40 average, followed by Carlqvist at 12.96 and Ahnlund Groiss at 20.10. Swedish competitors swept all 15 available podium positions across the tournament.

The Pyraminx event produced the only non-Wallin victory of the day, as Alve Carlqvist claimed the title with a swift 4.19 winning average and a 3.50 single. Wallin followed in second place with a 4.35 average, while Emerson Hoshi completed the podium in third with an average of 6.79. With five distinct events and five total rounds packed into a single day of competition, Uppsalaligan 3: Vaccinium Oxycoccos - 2023 concluded as a memorable cubing competition highlighting elite endurance and personal breakthroughs.
