Speedcubing.app was started by Julian Kim, a competitive speedcuber who wanted more ways to cube with his friends.

Why this site exists

The real reason is simple: Julian loves his cubing friends. Competitions are the best weekends of the year — but they're far away, expensive to get to, and only happen a few times a year, and even then everyone's schedules don't line up. He wanted a way to hang out with those friends between comps: race a few solves after school, compare PBs, cheer for someone's first sub-20, and keep the group chat going all year.

Julian is a shy kid. Cubing is the thing that makes it easy to say hi — hand someone a scramble and suddenly you have a friend. He's met cubers at out-of-state events like the 2025 Rubik's World Championship, at state championships, and even friends from Canadian competitions, and then watched most of those friendships go quiet once everyone drove home. Clubs on this site are his way of reconnecting with all of them: a place to keep racing, keep talking, and keep meeting new cubers all year long.

Official competitions are wonderful, and this site is built to celebrate them — we love the WCA, the volunteers, the delegates and every organizer who makes a comp happen. The gap Julian wanted to fill is the other 360 days: the practice, the friendly races, and the story behind your times. Whether your morning rounds are slower than your afternoon ones, how practice translates into competition, how your ranking has moved compared to a friendly rival — he started building those reports for himself, then realized every cuber wanted them.

Rule number one: have fun

Cubing is a toy. That's the best thing about it. Every leaderboard, rating and report on this site exists to make cubing more fun — a reason to race your club today, a reason to text a friend about a PB, a reason to pick up a puzzle you've never solved. Nothing here is meant to make you feel bad about a bad session.

The other half of the idea is racing your friends. Cubers already do it on webcams — so Speedcubing.app makes that easy and fair: official-style scrambles, synced countdowns, camera verification, and standings that count. Kids can cube with friends across town or across the world on a school night, clubs and schools get a home, and nobody has to wait for a comp weekend to feel the buzz of racing someone.

It's built with kids and clubs in mind: safe by default, friendly to beginners, and made for the community around the puzzle as much as the puzzle itself.

• Free, no ads, no card. Every feature above is free to use, and your practice data stays private by default.
• Safe by default. No anonymous sign-ups, email confirmation required, and direct messaging is switched off for accounts under 13. See our privacy policy and terms.
• Run by a cuber, for cubers. Julian builds it with help from the community, and club organizers moderate their own clubs.
