Speedcubing.app is a place to train, compete, and track your cubing progress. This page explains, in plain language, what we store and why. Short version: we keep what's needed to run your account and your stats, we don't sell your data, and you can delete your account whenever you want.

What we collect

  • Account info — your email, username, password (stored hashed, never in plain text), and anything you add to your profile.
  • Cubing activity — practice times, algorithm progress, posts, comments, forum messages, and results from rooms you join.
  • Linked WCA data — if you choose to connect a WCA account, we store your WCA ID and public competition results so we can show rankings and analysis. Linking is optional and you can unlink at any time.
  • Media you upload — avatars, photos, videos, and voice notes you attach to posts or messages.
  • Basic technical data — device/browser info and log data used to keep the site working and secure.

Live video and camera

Head-to-head rooms use your camera and microphone only while you're in a session. Video and audio are streamed to the other participants in the room. Our cube-detection features run in your own browser — the video frames used for detection are analyzed locally and are not uploaded for that purpose. We don't record sessions unless the feature clearly says we are.

How we use it

  • Run your account, profile, and progress tracking
  • Show leaderboards, rankings, and competition analysis
  • Deliver messages, notifications, and social features you opt into
  • Keep the platform safe — preventing spam, abuse, and cheating
  • Improve the product by understanding which features get used

We don't sell your personal data, and we don't run ads that target you based on it.

What's public

Your profile, posts, results, and forum activity are visible to others by default — that's the point of a community site. Direct messages are private to their participants. Your email address is never shown publicly.

Service providers

We use a small number of trusted services to operate the site — hosting, our database and authentication provider, video infrastructure for live rooms, and the World Cube Association's public data. They only receive what they need to do their job.

Your choices

  • Edit or remove most profile information yourself at any time
  • Unlink your WCA account whenever you like
  • Turn off notifications you don't want
  • Ask us to delete your account and associated data — we'll take care of it, keeping only what we're required to keep (like basic records for abuse prevention)

Data retention & security

We keep your data while your account is active. We use encryption in transit, row-level access controls on our database, and scoped access to stored media. No system is perfect, but we take this seriously and fix issues quickly when they're found.

Kids

Cubing has a lot of young competitors, and that's great. If you're under 13 (or the minimum age where you live), please have a parent or guardian set up and supervise your account. If we learn a younger child created an account on their own, we'll remove it.

Changes

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app. Continuing to use Speedcubing.app after a change means you're okay with the update.
