Ruby Lu Takes 3x3 Victory at EVO Sports Expo Cubing - Santa Clara 2025English

Ninety-three competitors arrived from across the region and from as far away as Switzerland, Japan, Korea, and China to attend EVO Sports Expo Cubing - Santa Clara 2025. Staged at the Santa Clara Convention Center on April 12, 2025, the gathering brought global talent straight to Northern California for nine rounds of high-intensity solving. Entrants logged thousands of miles across oceans and continents to measure their turning speed against a diverse field, turning the one-day schedule in Santa Clara, California, USA into an international showcase across seven official World Cube Association disciplines.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew 92 solvers through three rounds of rigorous speedcubing action. Ruby Lu (卢红) claimed the title with a tournament-winning average of 8.94 seconds, backed by a best single time of 8.02 seconds in the final round. Dean Jacob Adamo Susskind secured the silver medal with a 9.48 average, while Adam Walker took the third step on the podium at 9.64. The final 3x3 results demonstrated remarkable consistency at the top of the order, where sub-nine averages proved necessary to take home the weekend trophy.

Lu was not finished after the main event, returning to the tables for the twelve-sided Megaminx and taking second place overall with a 42.74 average. The event victory belonged to Nolan Yiu, who conquered the ten-person field with a winning mark of 34.57 seconds alongside a blistering 29.30 single. Austin Chen finished third with an average of 1:13.75. The multi-layered puzzle demanded deep lookahead, and Yiu set the standard early with the only sub-thirty single solve recorded during the entire discipline.

Dean Jacob Adamo Susskind followed his podium finish in the classic Rubik's Cube with a dominant victory in the Skewb final. Navigating the corner-turning puzzle with precision, Susskind posted a winning average of 2.49 seconds and a tournament-best single of 1.66 seconds across the eight-competitor bracket. Yuto Konno took second place with an average of 4.15, while Logan Kubota earned third with 5.25. Susskind was the lone entrant in the event to drop below the three-second barrier, sealing gold by a wide margin.

Beyond the podium battles, the floor at EVO Sports Expo Cubing - Santa Clara 2025 served as a proving ground for competitors making massive personal strides. Cody Gipson delivered one of the weekend highlights by lowering a 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 55.1 percent down to 8.77 seconds, alongside an 18.2 percent improvement on the 3x3x3 Cube to 35.39 seconds. Chloe Ho slashed 46.2 percent off her Megaminx personal best with a time of 1:23.25 to finish eighth, while Daniel Tsai dropped his Megaminx mark by 40.2 percent to 1:30.88 and improved his 3x3x3 time to 13.39 seconds. Ethan Jiang also made a dramatic leap on 2x2x2, trimming 49.9 percent to log a 5.11 single.

First-time event entries also produced strong placements throughout the day.
