Parist Pariyakanok Claims Double Victory at Zeer Rangsit Cubing 2024English

A razor-thin margin of just one one-hundredth of a second decided the premier event in Pathum Thani, Thailand, where Parist Pariyakanok secured the 3x3x3 Cube title with a 7.26 average over Shuda Huang at 7.27. The thrilling finish crowned a bustling weekend of speedcubing action that brought 155 competitors to Zeer Rangsit from March 29 to March 31, 2024. Across 10 distinct events and 21 competitive rounds, the gathering captured the vibrant spirit of a premier WCA competition in the region, drawing both seasoned champions and fresh faces stepping up to the solving tables for the very first time.

Stepping into a high-energy cubing competition transforms solitary practice into a public test of nerve. Debutants and rising solvers navigated the structured cadence of official regulation checks, timed inspections, and the sudden quiet that settles as fingers hover over the timing mats. For dozens of participants tackling new puzzles in front of judges, the tournament floor provided a true introduction to the intensity of live tournament play.

That personal progression defined the weekend for several under-the-radar competitors taking on expanded event slates. Lai Chun Lok delivered a remarkable breakthrough in the classic Rubik's Cube, recording a personal best single of 13.66 seconds to finish 40.4 percent faster than a previous mark of 22.92, while also posting an initial 4x4x4 Cube time of 2:01.31 and a first 3x3x3 One-Handed mark of 42.01. Korakrit Ampaijitt dropped an earlier 3x3 best from 34.58 down to 21.04 for a 39.2 percent improvement, alongside initial marks of 8.49 in the 2x2x2 Cube and 1:18.10 in One-Handed. Vorapol Kaengpol also surged ahead, taking a personal best of 8.30 on the standard cube to finish 30.4 percent faster than a former 11.93 mark, in addition to charting a 4.33 in 2x2x2 and 31.04 in One-Handed.

The depth of progress continued across the larger puzzles and varied specialties. Watcharapong Phromin lowered a previous 3x3 best of 22.85 down to 17.35 for a 24.1 percent improvement, while recording initial tournament times of 5.70 in the 2x2x2 Cube and 2:02.30 in the 4x4x4 Cube. Suvichak Suwannaket embraced an expansive program of seven events, establishing first-ever official marks of 3.63 in the 2x2x2 Cube, 31.64 in 3x3x3 One-Handed, and 57.35 in the 4x4x4 Cube. Meanwhile, Mymuang Maneechai tackled eight separate disciplines, earning an eighth-place finish in the 5x5x5 Cube alongside first attempts of 22.69 in Square-1, 2:56.63 in the 6x6x6 Cube, and 4:22.87 in the 7x7x7 Cube.

At the sharp end of the main bracket, the 3x3 results confirmed Pariyakanok as the weekend standout after three intense rounds of trimming down the 148-player field. Backing up a best single of 6.82 seconds, Pariyakanok edged Huang by the slimmest possible margin, while Enoch Tangprasittipol took third place on the podium with a solid 7.70 average. Pariyakanok added a second gold medal in 3x3x3 One-Handed, averaging 10.58 seconds with a best single of 8.65, clear of Natthaphat Mahtani at 13.46 and Chengming Su at 14.14.

Natthaphat Mahtani produced a powerhouse weekend across multiple categories, capturing first place in the 4x4x4 Cube with a 27.32 average and winning Megaminx with an average of 39.38 seconds. Mahtani also collected podium finishes across five other disciplines, taking second in the 2x2x2 Cube, 3x3x3 One-Handed, and Clock, plus third-place awards in the 5x5x5 Cube and 6x6x6 Cube. In the rapid-fire 2x2x2 Cube event, Charinwit Harnthavornchai claimed the title with a blistering 1.50 average, outpacing Mahtani and Huang in a field of 97 entries.

The big-cube division featured intense head-to-head duels between Asia Konvittayayotin and Anyu Zhang. Konvittayayotin swept the mid-sized heavies, taking the 5x5x5 Cube title in 50.26 seconds over Zhang at 50.31, and winning the 6x6x6 Cube in 1:29.37 ahead of Zhang at 1:30.13. Zhang struck back on the largest puzzle, claiming the 7x7x7 Cube crown with an impressive 2:03.08 average over Konvittayayotin at 2:16.93 and Chawin Ratanasiri at 2:32.95.

Side events offered their own dramatic resolutions to round out the schedule. Yanavut Jaipukdee secured the Clock championship with a steady 5.93 average, ahead of Mahtani at 6.09 and Atis Prasitvatanakul at 6.82. In Square-1, Phakinthorn Pronmongkolsuk topped the standings with an average of 10.53 seconds and a single solve of 9.46, leading a competitive group of 28 entrants.

Host nation competitors dominated the medal table with 24 podium placements, while visiting Chinese solvers captured six podium positions across the tournament. From breakthrough first rounds to razor-thin title deciders, Zeer Rangsit Cubing 2024 served as an exemplary showcase of modern speed cubing talent in Southeast Asia, closing out three days of precision puzzle solving.
