Eskil Munthe Dominates Sightless Solving at Winter Cubing in Stafsinge 2024English
Eskil Munthe delivered a remarkable blindfolded masterclass in Falkenberg, Sweden, securing a pair of gold medals defined by immense concentration. Across December 7 and December 8, the Stafsinge Bygdegård venue hosted Winter Cubing in Stafsinge 2024, where Munthe conquered the 3x3x3 Multi-Blind event by resolving 13 out of 15 puzzles in 52 minutes and 12 seconds. Memorising and executing dozens of algorithms without visual feedback demands absolute mental fortitude, and Munthe stood atop the 14-person field by managing cognitive endurance under intense competition pressure.
Munthe followed up that multi-cube triumph by seizing victory in the classic 3x3x3 Blindfolded discipline. Facing a lineup of 16 competitors, he posted a decisive winning single of 35.75 seconds to capture first place ahead of Denmark standout Martin Vædele Egdal, who registered a 38.50 single. Callum James Goodyear-Jørgensen of the United Kingdom claimed third place with a time of 1:29.72. The sightless categories highlighted a weekend where tactical focus and memory discipline took centre stage alongside raw turning speed.
Beyond the blindfolded events, this WCA competition brought together 38 competitors tackling 12 events across 21 rounds of intense speedcubing. The classic 3x3x3 Cube competition went through three full stages among 31 entrants, culminating in a fierce final where Pep Edén earned the title with an average of 8.85 seconds and a best single of 7.31. Herman Axelsson secured second place with an average of 9.04, while Munthe continued his excellent weekend by taking third place with a 9.14 mark in the official 3x3 results.
The 2x2x2 Cube final provided another tight duel across three rounds, as Frank Lindblom clinched the victory with a 1.65-second average, barely edging out Edén, who finished second with 1.70. Fabian Lönnkvist joined them on the podium in third place with an average of 3.16. Lindblom also proved his versatility by capturing the Skewb crown, topping a 30-competitor field over two rounds with a winning average of 3.24 seconds and a best single of 2.04 seconds.
