Krish Shah-Nathwani Sweeps Winchester Weeknights II 2023 With Triple VictoryEnglish

Twenty-four competitors gathered for Winchester Weeknights II 2023, creating a fierce evening of competition across five rounds of action. Held at the Winchester Elks Club in Winchester, Massachusetts, USA on July 5, 2023, the midweek cubing competition brought together dedicated regional rivals and international entrants. Speedcubing enthusiasts came ready to battle across three separate events, showcasing exceptional finger dexterity and puzzle-solving skill.

The 3x3x3 Cube contest stood at the center of the regional clash, as competitors pushed their turn speeds to the limit. Krish Shah-Nathwani established control over the field, taking the top spot with a winning average of 7.71 seconds after posting the best single time of 7.16 seconds. Curtis Chai pushed hard throughout the final round, claiming second place with an average of 9.03 seconds. Charles Amarello secured third place with an average of 9.53 seconds, wrapping up an exciting set of 3x3 results.

The 2x2x2 Cube event delivered a rapid sprint among twenty-two competitors in a single decisive round. Krish Shah-Nathwani emerged victorious once more, capturing first place with an average of 2.72 seconds. The race for the podium was extraordinarily close, as Curtis Chai took the silver spot with an average of 2.82 seconds and Will Russo claimed third place just behind with a 2.84 average. Russo also set the fastest single time in the event with a rapid 1.96 clocking.

The Pyraminx event concluded the triple sweep for Krish Shah-Nathwani at Winchester Weeknights II 2023. Posting a winning average of 3.22 seconds and the fastest single solve at 3.05 seconds, Shah-Nathwani held off another strong challenge from Curtis Chai, who finished second with a 3.63 average. Kevin Pertus rounded out the top three by capturing third place with an average of 4.80 seconds, finalizing a sweep of all nine podium places by competitors representing the USA.

Beyond the top steps of the podium, several speed cubing participants marked substantial progress in their solving journeys. Beckett Shia produced massive personal bests across the board, setting a 2x2x2 Cube best of 6.51 seconds to cut his previous mark by 50 percent, alongside a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 23.68 seconds and a Pyraminx personal best of 8.41 seconds. Owen Corley recorded a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 16.37 seconds, improving by 6.4 percent, while also posting a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 5.04 seconds. Charlie McEneaney lowered his 2x2x2 Cube personal best to 4.08 seconds, improved his 3x3x3 Cube personal best to 12.63 seconds, and took on his first ever attempt at Pyraminx with a mark of 10.39 seconds. Jonah Yoken also completed a first ever attempt at Pyraminx, registering a time of 16.46 seconds while taking 18th place in the 2x2x2 Cube.

The competition floor also saw prominent first-time appearances and determined multi-event campaigns. Dana Imambek entered a first WCA competition, recording first ever attempts in Pyraminx with 7.53 seconds, the 3x3x3 Cube with 17.44 seconds, and the 2x2x2 Cube with 5.40 seconds on the way to a 17th-place finish. Lucas Newcomb completed an inaugural appearance by tackling three disciplines, logging initial attempts of 5.53 seconds in 2x2x2 Cube, 15.01 seconds in Pyraminx, and 20.92 seconds in 3x3x3 Cube. Simon Sonoda debuted with initial marks of 14.92 seconds on 2x2x2 Cube, 16.01 seconds on Pyraminx, and 34.69 seconds on 3x3x3 Cube. Miu Sonoda rounded out an active evening across three events with first ever attempts of 13.41 seconds in 2x2x2 Cube, 18.33 seconds in Pyraminx, and 33.48 seconds in 3x3x3 Cube.

Tactical mastery across different puzzle mechanisms defined the rhythm of the tournament. Solving the classic Rubik's Cube requires a delicate balance of lookahead and precise algorithm execution, while the tetrahedral Pyraminx demands explosive burst turning. The 2x2x2 Cube tests explosive recognition where fractions of a second decide entire podium placements, as demonstrated by the razor-thin margins separating the top three finishers during the evening.

The action at Winchester Weeknights II 2023 highlighted the depth of talent present in the regional scene as well as the ambition of rising solvers. With three decisive event victories by Krish Shah-Nathwani, thrilling head-to-head battles against Curtis Chai, and widespread personal bests throughout the roster, the gathering at the Winchester Elks Club delivered an unforgettable chapter of competitive speedcubing.
