Competition recap
A written summary of Warm Up Lent 2026, generated from the official results on this page.
Pencil, Paper and Precision Anchor a Frenetic Weekend at Warm Up Lent 2026English
Inside Sporthal de Boog, the contrast between disciplines defined the weekend. While the central floor was a whirlwind of flying plastic, rapid timer taps and instant reactions, one quiet corner told a completely different story. In 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, competitors sat armed with paper, pencils and standard cubes, carefully mapping out turns rather than racing a digital clock. The cerebral discipline demanded complete focus, stripping speedcubing down to pure spatial theory and deliberate problem solving across an hour of calculation.
That analytical discipline set the stage for Warm Up Lent 2026, held in Lent, Netherlands from July 10 to July 12, 2026. The WCA competition gathered 179 competitors who took on 17 distinct events across 30 rounds of action. In the Fewest Moves event, Denmark's Adam Marcellus Kelly secured the top spot on the podium among 54 competitors, registering a single of 22 moves and delivering a winning average of 22.33 moves to master the quietest puzzle of the weekend.
Once the focus shifted to raw speed cubing, the pace escalated dramatically. The classic 3x3x3 Cube drew the weekend's largest field with 160 competitors battling through four rounds. Twan Dullemond of the Netherlands claimed victory in the final with a blistering 4.88 best single, topping United States speedcuber Patrick Ponce, who marked a 5.45, and Romania's Ianis Costin Chele at 5.72. The 3x3 results brought the house to its feet, confirming the premier status of the traditional Rubik's Cube.
Dullemond was not finished with the main event, also powering through two rounds of the 4x4x4 Cube to win with an average of 23.67 seconds and a best single of 22.40. Chele took second place with a Romanian national record average of 24.35 seconds, ahead of Mika Smulders at 25.12. Antonie Paterakis kept the Dutch gold rush going in the 2x2x2 Cube, logging a 1.31 winning average to edge out Oscar van Duijn at 1.50 and Christofor Gabriel Costea at 1.67.
Away from the top steps of the podium, several competitors made substantial strides in their personal development. Boris Geschwill entered five events and recorded a Skewb personal best of 4.67 seconds, an 85.9 percent drop from his prior 33.16 mark, while improving his Pyraminx time by 40.5 percent to 12.16 and submitting a first Clock attempt of 19.93. Julian Luinenburg logged a 47.68 personal best in 4x4x4 Cube, which was 33.2 percent faster than his previous 1:11.43, alongside his first official 5x5x5 Cube solve of 2:02.30 and a Clock debut of 18.56.
Expanding repertoires and huge personal time drops continued throughout the lower brackets. Gabriel Maigre stepped up for nine events, notching first official marks in 3x3x3 One-Handed at 32.19, Square-1 at 35.37, and Clock at 22.90. Mil Vaesen logged first attempts in Pyraminx at 13.53, Skewb at 11.15, and One-Handed at 1:11.49. Tim van Renswoude took on 3x3x3 Blindfolded for the first time with a 7:05.95 solve, while trimming his Skewb mark by 49.4 percent to 7.66 and his 3x3x3 mark by 8.5 percent to 18.08. Luc Huijbregts recorded initial times in 2x2x2 Cube at 8.57 and Pyraminx at 12.89, along with a 12 percent improvement in 3x3x3 Cube down to 26.03.
The big cube events belonged entirely to South Africa's Daniel Rush, who delivered a commanding sweep. Rush took first in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 42.60 average, besting Dullemond at 46.21 and Smulders at 46.74. He then set an African record average of 1:13.38 to capture the 6x6x6 Cube, before claiming the 7x7x7 Cube with a winning average of 1:54.03, powered by a new African record single of 1:45.41. The 7x7x7 podium was completed by Matěj Grohmann in 2:19.46 and Oskar Vidiček, whose 2:21.29 set a Slovenian national record average.
Memory and specialty formats provided plenty of dramatic tension. Austria's Simon Praschl swept all four blindfolded disciplines, winning the 3x3x3 Blindfolded event with an 18.94 average, the 4x4x4 Blindfolded title with a 1:17.76 single, the 5x5x5 Blindfolded victory with a 3:08.84 single, and the Multi-Blind competition by solving 53 of 58 cubes within 58:42. In one-handed solving, Eden Robinson-Rechavi took gold with an 8.24 average, while also setting a Swiss national record average of 5.64 during the 3x3x3 rounds.
Short-format puzzles rounded out an exhaustive schedule across the three days of cubing competition in Gelderland. Aratz Larruzea secured the Pyraminx title in 1.69 seconds, Mick Boekema took Clock in 3.58 seconds, Vojtěch Grohmann won Skewb in 1.96 seconds, and Alexander Botz took Square-1 in 7.72 seconds. Ianis Costin Chele added a Megaminx victory with a 38.19 average to conclude Warm Up Lent 2026 as a premier showcase of speed, logic and precision across every branch of the sport.
