Amy Smith Dominates Blindfolded Events at WA Side State Championship 2025English

Amy Smith authored an extraordinary masterclass in concentration at the Mount Claremont Community Centre, claiming four distinct titles including a staggering 28 out of 33 cubes in 58:57 during 3x3x3 Multi-Blind. The one-day gathering on September 6, 2025, brought 29 competitors to Perth, Western Australia, Australia, for an intensive showcase of non-standard disciplines. Across nine rounds and seven events, the WA Side State Championship 2025 proved to be an unforgettable speedcubing exhibition where elite memory and mechanical precision collided.

Beyond traditional three-layered puzzles where enthusiasts routinely check standard 3x3 results, this specialized cubing competition emphasized extended focus and high-order mastery. The Multi-Blind schedule served as a central highlight, featuring 14 competitors managing dozens of rotating faces entirely from memory. Smith set the standard for the event, outperforming a competitive field that saw multiple official single entries posted into the international books alongside fellow podium finishers Jaxon Foster and Scott Adrian Meyer.

Smith continued her clean sweep of memory events by capturing both the 4x4x4 Blindfolded and 5x5x5 Blindfolded competitions. In the 4x4x4 blindfold event, Smith secured first place with a single of 1:37.31, finishing ahead of Jaxon Foster at 7:49.70 and Declan Sander at 9:43.88. The 5x5x5 Blindfolded challenge saw similar dominance, where Smith took gold with a 3:47.98 single over Foster at 17:28.00 and Meyer at 20:50.00, demonstrating remarkable accuracy on the larger blindfolded puzzles.

The rotational speed of Clock provided a rapid change of pace, where Smith added a fourth victory at the WA Side State Championship 2025. Delivering a winning average of 3.87 seconds and a best single of 2.92, Smith topped the 21-competitor field over two rounds. Tyler Williams took second place on the podium with a 5.43 average, while Eshiel Benzion Narayanan claimed the third step with a 5.97 average in a contest that tested instant dial recognition.

The big cube divisions produced intense battles among Australia’s top specialists. In the 6x6x6 Cube, Eshiel Benzion Narayanan edged out the opposition across a 21-competitor single round, taking the title with an average of 1:50.45 and a single of 1:49.57. Jaxon Foster followed closely in second place at 1:51.25, while Tyler Williams completed the podium at 1:51.70. Williams soon rebounded in the 7x7x7 Cube, capturing the win with a 2:40.96 average against runner-up Alevio Efendi at 2:44.74 and Jeann Valdez at 2:53.82.

Megaminx action spanned two competitive rounds among 23 participants, highlighting twelve-sided spatial reasoning. Jonathan Charlesworth earned top honours, recording a winning average of 40.83 seconds alongside the day’s quickest single of 39.29. Josephine Siburian mounted a strong challenge to claim second place with a 43.23 average, while Regan Roberts rounded out the top three by posting a solid 49.39 average in the final round.

Away from the top steps, several competitors delivered massive breakthroughs in specialized events. Zaya Qiaolong took on six events, making a first official attempt at 3x3x3 Multi-Blind with 3/6 in 52:30, a first 4x4x4 Blindfolded attempt of 22:35.00, and cutting 23.5 percent off a 7x7x7 Cube personal best down to 7:17.99. Ameen Nethaka Abhayasinghe competed in four events and finished fourth in Clock with a personal best of 5.05, a 14.1 percent improvement over a previous 5.88 mark, while also setting a Megaminx personal best of 1:34.24. Lachlan Manson tackled five events, achieving a Megaminx personal best of 2:03.77 to improve by 12.4 percent and recording a Clock personal best of 14.76.

Other athletes across the venue registered crucial milestones throughout the day. Lucas Glisenti took on his first ever official Clock attempt, recording a mark of 14.82. Joshua Bumstead entered seven events, securing a personal best of 3/4 in 21:41 in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind while finishing fifth in 5x5x5 Blindfolded. Alvaro Efendi earned seventh place in Megaminx and set a 7x7x7 Cube personal best of 3:43.74. Joel Harrop delivered a personal best Clock single of 7.50, and George Pedigo contested four events, setting a personal best of 15.52 on Clock while finishing 13th in the 7x7x7 Cube.

The tournament highlighted the depth of speed cubing talent across Western Australia, with Australian competitors securing all 21 available podium places across the seven scheduled events. From the extended concentration required in multi-blind solving to the rapid dexterity demanded by Megaminx and big cubes, the WA Side State Championship 2025 gave regional competitors a premier WCA competition platform to test their limits against the clock and set new benchmarks for the year.
