Matouš Keder Sets National Pyraminx Records at Vltava Cube: May 2026 in PragueEnglish
A winning average of 1.49 seconds stood out as the defining performance in Prague, Czech Republic, where twenty-six competitors assembled on May 23, 2026. Held at the FYFT venue, the single-day gathering brought ten rounds of action across four distinct puzzle categories. Although fans of classic Rubik's Cube speedcubing were looking for various side-event specialists rather than standard 3x3 results, the high-stakes atmosphere delivered exceptional times. Matouš Keder anchored the competition with a historic showing in the Pyraminx, pairing a fast 1.09 best single with two national records to dominate the stage.
Keder took control of the Pyraminx across three full rounds of play, battling through a field of twenty-one competitors to finish atop the podium. His decisive 1.49 winning average broke the national record average for the Czech Republic, accompanied by a 1.05 national record single logged during his record-setting run. Tomáš Nguyen secured second place on the Pyraminx podium with a 2.39 average, while Matyáš Krejcárek earned third place with a mark of 2.74. Keder maintained his commanding form throughout the afternoon, reinforcing his control over the event roster.
The Pyraminx champion was not done with podium finishes, expanding his reach directly into the Clock tournament. In a discipline requiring rapid spatial manipulation and split-second dial adjustments, Filip Hosnedl captured first place with an impressive 3.69 winning average and a round-best single of 3.43. Keder followed in second place with an average of 5.17, adding another major trophy to his weekend haul. Jiří Vogl rounded out the Clock podium in third position with a steady 5.72 average across seventeen competitors.
Beyond the triangular and geared mechanisms, the big cubes delivered dramatic matchups across two rounds of play. In the 6x6x6 Cube, Matěj Grohmann claimed victory among seventeen participants by logging an average of 1:37.94 alongside the round's best single of 1:29.20. Tomáš Nguyen placed second with a time of 1:47.46, followed closely by Tomáš Szyszkowicz in third place with 1:48.48. The prolonged solve times of the larger puzzle tested stamina and hardware stability as competitors navigated complex edge reduction sequences.
The twelve-sided Megaminx provided an equally intense contest across its two rounds and eighteen entrants. Vojtěch Grohmann won the event with a sharp 45.62 average, supported by a 43.02 best single. Matěj Grohmann, fresh off his victory in the six-layer puzzle, earned second place with a 48.75 average, while Martin Pilný claimed the third-place step in 48.96. The competition highlighted the strong regional depth in Prague, with all twelve podium positions across the four events going to solvers representing the Czech Republic.
Behind the headline finishes, several under-the-radar competitors achieved major career milestones at this WCA competition. Tomáš Čech, entering a single event across his five career tournaments, delivered a dramatic breakthrough in Pyraminx with a personal best of 9.13, improving on his previous mark of 11.68 by 21.8 percent. Patrik Cichra took on a demanding four-event schedule, recording his first ever attempt at 6x6x6 Cube with a result of 5:21.82, dropping his Megaminx personal best by 21.2 percent to 2:18.84 from 2:56.17, and logging a Clock personal best of 9.04.
The progress continued across the venue as Marc Somoano tackled two events and recorded a Pyraminx personal best of 10.93, a 14.3 percent improvement over his earlier 12.76. Antonín Prynych participated in all four disciplines, taking sixth in Clock as his best finish while lowering his Pyraminx personal best by 11.1 percent to 2.00, alongside personal bests of 3:37.72 in 6x6x6 Cube and 1:28.05 in Megaminx. Šimon Bitman completed a four-event roster by carving out a 4.1 percent improvement in Megaminx, logging a new personal best of 1:01.03.
The diverse selection of four puzzle disciplines offered a well-rounded display of speed cubing excellence within a compact, single-day framework. From the intricate gear-driven layouts of the Clock to the massive spatial challenge of big cubes and dodecahedrons, the tournament offered something distinct from standard twisty puzzle matchups. Each bracket brought fierce contention among regional peers, testing solving speed, consistency under timer pressure, and strategic inspection across varying formats.
As the final tables were cleared at the FYFT venue, the successful staging of Vltava Cube: May 2026 proved the continued vitality of the Czech speedcubing community. Matouš Keder departed with a Pyraminx national record double alongside a multi-podium showing, while twenty-six entrants logged valuable experience on the circuit. With twelve podium awards claimed by home-nation solvers, the gathering closed out an intense chapter of competition as athletes set their sights on the next season of tournament play.
