Niche Disciplines Take Center Stage at Vltava Cube: March 2026English

The competition floor at FYFT buzzed with intense concentration and the quick click of turning plastic on March 28, 2026. Rather than the familiar rush of classic twisty puzzles, this cubing competition offered a distinct focus, putting specialized events directly in the spotlight. In Prague, Czech Republic, competitors took their seats under the timers to tackle shapes and mechanisms that demand alternative skill sets. With twenty-six competitors gathering for the action, the atmosphere reflected dedication to disciplines that require deep study and precise mechanical control.

Speedcubing enthusiasts often look for standard 3x3 results, but this one-day WCA competition highlighted a different side of the sport. The schedule featured four events across nine total rounds, giving specialists in non-standard puzzles room to shine. The field brought high energy to every round, proving that speed cubing flourishes across an expansive variety of challenges. From the rapid-fire moves of four-axis puzzles to the intricate layers of larger polyhedra, the single-day gathering tested versatility and adaptability at every station.

The Pyraminx delivered exceptional speed over three competitive rounds involving twenty-five competitors. Matouš Keder captured victory with a stellar winning average of 1.98 seconds, backed by the best single of the event at 1.25 seconds. Matyáš Krejcárek secured the second spot on the podium with an average of 2.57 seconds, while Jan Trojáček took third place with a 2.66 average. The lightning-fast turn sequences and quick tip manipulation showed just how refined modern Pyraminx solving has become among the Czech contingent.

Skewb matches were equally rapid, pushing competitors through three hard-fought rounds among twenty-two participants. Kacper Górecki from Poland stood atop the podium, finishing with a 1.91 winning average and recording the best single mark of 1.41 seconds. Vojtěch Grohmann of the Czech Republic followed in second place with an average of 2.34 seconds, and Jakub Jakoubek rounded out the podium in third with an average of 3.07 seconds. It was the sole non-Czech victory of the day, as Poland claimed one podium place while host nation solvers secured eleven.

Beyond the quick-turning puzzles, endurance disciplines challenged solvers with extensive layer counts and complex recognition. Vojtěch Grohmann earned top honors in Megaminx across two rounds of twenty-one competitors, averaging 45.27 seconds and setting the best single of the event at 36.59 seconds. Tomáš Nguyen took second place with a 48.68 average, and Veronika Pirklová finished third at 52.15 seconds. In the 5x5x5 Cube, which ran for a single round of twenty competitors, Matěj Grohmann claimed the win with an average of 47.47 seconds and a best single of 46.29 seconds, ahead of Tomáš Nguyen in second at 55.78 and Vojtěch Grohmann in third at 58.20.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several participants marked major milestones and personal breakthroughs. Matěj Kůrka tackled all four events, making a first ever attempt at Megaminx with a result of 2:26.81, while cutting his Pyraminx personal best to 4.54 seconds, which was 36.8 percent faster than his prior 7.18. Přemysl Prachař made his first ever attempt at Pyraminx with a time of 9.33 seconds and improved his 5x5x5 Cube personal best to 1:31.71, dropping 22 percent from 1:57.60. Šimon Bitman dropped his Pyraminx best by 28.2 percent to 3.62 seconds, lowered his Megaminx mark by 26.5 percent to 1:03.66, and set a new 5x5x5 Cube best of 1:31.22. Ondřej Mizera improved his Skewb best to 5.87 seconds, an improvement of 27.5 percent over his former 8.10 mark, alongside a Pyraminx personal best of 3.48 seconds.

The progress continued across the scorecards as other dedicated competitors registered significant improvements. Antonín Prynych took on four events, achieving a best finish of sixth place in Pyraminx while taking 30.5 percent off his Megaminx personal best to reach 1:29.33, down from 2:08.59, and shaving 18.4 percent off his 5x5x5 Cube best with a time of 1:46.62. Patrik Cichra completed four events and took his Megaminx personal best down to 2:56.17, a 10 percent drop from 3:15.83, while also recording new personal bests in Skewb at 5.30 seconds and 5x5x5 Cube at 2:08.95. Barbora Jelínková took part in two events, establishing a new Megaminx personal best of 57.18 seconds.

The technical demands of the schedule highlighted how much depth exists across the broader Rubik's Cube community. Every format on the schedule required specialized finger dexterity, memorized algorithms, and spatial reasoning distinct from traditional events. The single-day tournament structure rewarded consistency, keeping timers active from the opening scrambles straight through to the final podium presentations.

As the final tables were packed away at FYFT, the success of Vltava Cube: March 2026 underscored the enduring appeal of specialized tournament formats. The day provided a complete showcase for side-event specialists and rising solvers aiming to test their capabilities in focused competition. With multiple sub-two-second averages and deep fields across all four events, the community in Prague delivered an efficient and memorable day of competitive solving as the calendar moves toward the next season of events.
