A Weekend of Camaraderie and Swift Solves Unfolds at VERK XIII 2026English

A blistering 29.67 average in the 4x4x4 Cube final by Luukas Lempinen set the standard for an action-packed weekend in Helsinki, Finland. Across March 7 and March 8, the gathering at VERK brought together 15 competitors for a vibrant speedcubing meetup. While every division saw focused concentration at the tables, the atmosphere between rounds highlighted the shared passion of the community. From long practice sessions to quiet problem-solving huddles, the event showed how much energy surrounds a focused speed cubing gathering.

The tournament schedule at VERK XIII 2026 was packed with variety, offering 24 rounds across 12 distinct events. Participants tackled everything from complex big cubes to fast-paced side challenges, giving each competitor plenty of stage time. The venue fostered an environment where friends shared scrambles and compared approaches long after completing their official attempts. This sense of togetherness gave the cubing competition its distinct rhythm over two full days of play.

Luukas Lempinen enjoyed a prolific run throughout the weekend, capturing four individual event titles. Alongside his sub-30 victory in the 4x4x4 Cube, Lempinen claimed top honours in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 56.98 average, ahead of Aarni Salakari and Urho Kinnunen. He added another first-place finish in the 6x6x6 Cube with a 1:45.06 average, where Kinnunen took second and Leo Alanen secured third. Lempinen rounded out his winning tally in Megaminx, recording a decisive 51.15 winning mark.

Urho Kinnunen matched that multi-event excellence by collecting four victories of his own across a wide spectrum of formats. Kinnunen showcased his versatility by winning the 7x7x7 Cube with a 2:35.79 average, finishing ahead of Lempinen and Vincenzo Maria Gammino. In the 3x3x3 One-Handed division, Kinnunen secured first place with an average of 14.19, besting Antto Pitkänen and Lempinen. Kinnunen also topped the standings in Skewb with a 2.92 mark and won Pyraminx with a swift 3.24 average.

Beyond the top podium spots, personal milestones defined the heart of the competition away from the main leaderboard. Jimi Helminen took on a massive slate of 11 events, achieving a 7th-place finish in Clock while lowering his Clock personal best to 9.72, which was 13.8 percent faster than his prior mark. Helminen also made his first ever attempt at the 7x7x7 Cube with a time of 5:52.15 and improved his Square-1 best to 16.65, a 17.1 percent drop. Viljo Malkavuori made his first ever attempt at the 4x4x4 Cube with a 1:54.86, set a Megaminx best of 2:44.59, and lowered his Skewb personal best to 7.83, cutting 10.2 percent off his old mark.

Precision events demanded exceptional concentration, beginning with the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves contest. Vincenzo Maria Gammino of Italy claimed first place with a 28.67 average, edging out Kinnunen on tiebreak rules after both registered identical 28.67 marks, while Chiara Marcucci placed third with 29.00. Gammino also took the best single solve of the event with 26 moves. Those following tactical solutions and classic Rubiks Cube techniques found plenty to admire throughout the analysis periods.

Specialty puzzle finals kept the energy high right through Sunday afternoon. Niilo Eskelinen proved dominant in two distinct short formats, winning the 2x2x2 Cube with a 2.26 average and claiming the Square-1 title with a 7.57 average ahead of Lempinen and Alanen. In the Clock event, Aarni Salakari topped the podium with an outstanding 3.66 average and a 2.64 single, outperforming Atilla Kopecky and Alanen. Across the board, Finnish competitors took 33 podium places, with Italian visitors earning three.

As the final timers stopped at VERK XIII 2026, the event concluded with mutual congratulations and shared appreciation across the floor. For competitors looking over their 3x3 results and side event marks, the gathering in 2026 reinforced the supportive spirit that defines a local WCA competition. The weekend demonstrated that whether chasing podium positions or achieving personal milestones, the community remains the true foundation of the sport.
