Organization Drives Fast Times and Big Breakthroughs at USFA Challenge 2025 in La PazEnglish
Inside the halls of the Universidad San Francisco de Asis, the rhythm of competition unfolded across tables lined with timers, scorecards, and scramble stations. Running an ambitious 11-event schedule requires seamless coordination, and the dedicated team of organizers, delegates, and staff ensured that 23 rounds ran smoothly from morning to evening. Their work provided an orderly stage for 68 competitors gathered across May 24 and May 25 to test their skills in one of the most anticipated speedcubing gatherings of the year 2025.
The logistical effort behind the weekend allowed every division to shine, accommodating large brackets as well as highly specialized events. Bringing a full-scale cubing competition to La Paz, Bolivia meant managing high-volume stages alongside intricate setups for larger cubes and blindfolded attempts. Thanks to the steady hands at the running desks and scramble tables, the USFA Challenge 2025 delivered an exceptional weekend of head-to-head racing that highlighted both seasoned veterans and rising talents.
When the headline 3x3 results came down to the final solves, Luzio Batuani Conde emerged at the top of a 62-competitor bracket. After navigating three rounds of the classic Rubik's Cube, Batuani Conde secured the title with a 9.15 winning average and a best single of 7.28. Matias Franco Echeverria Ramos pushed the pace in second with a 9.28 average, while Claudio Andre Gomez Villca claimed third on the podium at 9.42, rounding out a remarkably close final.
Batuani Conde was not finished with his 3x3x3 triumph, returning to the stage to collect another victory in the 4x4x4 Cube. There, he posted a 34.03 average alongside an event-best single of 29.41 across two rounds. Meanwhile, Stefano Gabriel Gottret Fernandez showcased blistering speed in the 2x2x2 Cube, taking first place with a 3.71 average after besting Rodrigo Mateo Inochea Fernández and Daniel C. Bedoya in a tense final round.
Across the bigger cubes, Josias Milan Sirpa Pinto assembled a remarkable treble. Sirpa Pinto took top honors in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 56.46 average, holding off Batuani Conde who finished second at 58.94. He continued his dominance in the 6x6x6 Cube, recording a winning average of 1:51.48 with a 1:40.27 single, before completing his sweep in the 7x7x7 Cube with a 2:55.12 mark ahead of Gomez Villca and Daniel Delgado Candia.
Beyond the podium battles, the heart of the weekend lived within the breakthroughs achieved by competitors making dramatic individual strides. Aitana Isabella Terrazas Rivera logged one of the most stunning improvements of the tournament, lowering her Clock personal best to 15.51, which was 78.6 percent faster than her prior 1:12.56 mark. Avril Camila Terrazas had a major leap of her own, posting a 3.79 personal best in 2x2x2 to improve by 60.4 percent, while Armando Ruben Cantuta Poma took on eight events and improved his 2x2x2 best to 4.10, a 56.8 percent jump. Jose Lima entered seven disciplines and dropped his 2x2x2 mark by 52.5 percent to 3.50 while also taking his first ever attempt at 5x5x5 in 5:55.01.
Fresh milestones kept emerging across every round of the WCA competition. Mateo Luciano Padilla Mendez took on six disciplines, recording a 43 percent improvement in 2x2x2 with a 4.12 mark and trying 5x5x5 for the first time at 2:59.67. Irvin Jose Diaz Huanca tried 4x4x4 for the first time at 5:15.22, and Luis Gabriel Aguilar Tola completed his first Pyraminx attempt at 12.51.
The puzzle roster also featured standout performances in specialized categories. Sebastián Morón Mariscal put on a masterclass across varied formats, winning Megaminx in 1:02.77, taking Clock with a 7.47 average, and solving 4x4x4 Blindfolded in 6:28.37 as the only competitor to register a successful result. In the 3x3x3 One-Handed event, Alejandro Marze Rossel captured the crown with a 16.21 average, and Antonio Adorno Suarez claimed the Pyraminx title with a 4.67 average over three rounds.
