Community Camaraderie and Blistering Solves at Uppsalaligan 1: Mixup - 2024English

Inside the welcoming hall of Österledskyrkan, the atmosphere was defined by shared conversations, the rhythmic click of turning layers, and warm handshakes between familiar peers. A tight-knit group of fourteen solvers assembled in Uppsala, Sweden on January 22, 2024, creating an environment where mutual encouragement and shared insights took center stage. Before official timers began running, competitors sat together across tables, sharing hardware modifications, discussing finger tricks, and easing into a full day of varied puzzle challenges.

This edition marked Uppsalaligan 1: Mixup - 2024, a specialized cubing competition designed to celebrate both classic events and unique disciplines across seven distinct formats. With every round consisting of a single direct final, each solve carried immediate importance. Yet between attempts, participants spent ample time cheering on peers and analyzing complex scrambles. The gathering offered a balanced blend of friendly local sportsmanship and serious speedcubing dedication, bringing the Swedish speed cubing circuit together for an intense single-day meet.

The spotlight shone brightly on Daniel Wallin and Elvin Thorsen, who traded podium places and contested the top step throughout the entire program. In the marquee 3x3x3 Cube event, Wallin secured the title with a swift 7.84 average, punctuated by a best single of 6.92 seconds. Thorsen followed closely behind in second place with an average of 8.30 seconds and the fastest single of the round at 6.25 seconds, while Alve Carlqvist claimed the bronze position with an average of 8.79 seconds to round out the 3x3 results.

Thorsen enjoyed his own dominant stretch across the technical, fast-paced side disciplines. In Pyraminx, Thorsen captured first place with an impressive winning average of 3.17 seconds, including a rapid single of 2.12 seconds, finishing ahead of Wallin who took second with 3.61 seconds and Govend Avgerinos Djangoi in third at 4.03 seconds. Thorsen maintained that sharp pace in Skewb, locking up the gold medal with a 3.78 average, while Wallin picked up the silver at 4.89 seconds and Arvid Ahnlund Groiss earned bronze with a 6.19 average.

Mid-sized and specialty puzzles provided further drama throughout the afternoon schedule. In the 4x4x4 Cube contest, Thorsen collected another victory by putting together a 33.32 average and a round-best 31.96 single. Wallin followed in the runner-up slot with a 34.26 average, while Minea Alanen earned third place with a solid 36.57 average. Over on the Megaminx tables, Wallin flipped the table order to capture first place with a 42.70 average and a 41.17 single, leaving Djangoi in second at 52.48 and Thorsen in third at 52.76.

Beyond the podium battles, the day was packed with breakthrough moments for several dedicated competitors whose steady work came together on the official tables. Anton Levander Hubinette entered two events, logging a personal best of 25.40 seconds in 3x3x3 Cube that improved on his previous mark of 51.80 by fifty-one percent, alongside his first ever attempt at Pyraminx yielding a 10.40 single. Max Högblad Wallgren took on four events and posted a 4x4x4 Cube personal best of 1:21.68, seven point three percent quicker than his prior benchmark.

Elvin Thorsen took second place with a 24.83 single, and Peter Hugosson-Miller locked up third place in 4:01.37. Every podium place in the event was filled by Swedish competitors, who swept all twenty-one available podium positions throughout the entire meet.

The big-cube test concluded with the 7x7x7 Cube, demanding sustained focus across hundreds of turning moves. Govend Avgerinos Djangoi emerged triumphant, taking the victory with a 3:01.19 average and a fast single of 2:54.49. Daniel Wallin followed in second place with a 3:09.15 average, while Elvin Thorsen secured third place at 3:12.73.
