Enrique Adolfo Delgado Edges Out One-Handed Decider at UPB Cubing 2024English

A single solve separated victory from second place at the Universidad Privada Boliviana as Enrique Adolfo Delgado locked in a 17.56 winning average in 3x3x3 One-Handed to capture the title by barely a quarter of a second. The duel went down to the finest margins against Jhoel Manuel Callata Cardoso, who closed out his round with a 17.82 average, leaving Alvaro Javier Viscarra Catacora in third at 18.12. Delgado added a sharp 15.66 single to his tally, anchoring one of the most tightly contested conclusions of the entire weekend.

The one-handed nail-biter crowned a vibrant day of action in Cochabamba, Bolivia, as UPB Cubing 2024 gathered 65 competitors on April 27, 2024. Staged across seven events and 11 rounds, the gathering delivered intense head-to-head racing and proved to be a showcase for regional talent across every discipline. Competitors from across the country converged to test their skills under tournament conditions, with all 21 podium positions claimed by Bolivian entrants.

Delgado was not finished with his one-handed triumph, continuing his dominant run right into the main 3x3x3 Cube event. Moving cleanly through three rounds of classical speedcubing against a 62-person field, Delgado topped the 3x3 results with an 8.94 average in the final, bolstered by a day-best single of 8.04. Xavier Antonio Balderrama kept up the pressure to take runner-up honours with a 9.38 average, while Luzio Batuani Conde secured the bronze step on the podium with a mark of 10.24.

Shorter formats produced equal drama on the tournament floor, highlighted by an explosive display in the 2x2x2 Cube. Damián Amilkar Vicente Tordoya delivered a masterclass across two rounds, securing the title with a swift 2.65 average and a 2.43 single. Jhersson Cabezas Luizaga followed in second place with a 3.39 average, edging Luzio Batuani Conde who registered 3.44. The event drew 36 competitors and generated quick-fire turnarounds that kept the venue buzzing from the opening stage.

Beyond the traditional puzzles, the Pyraminx saw Cabezas Luizaga claim gold with an impressive 3.93 average and a rapid 2.56 single, ahead of Rodrigo Ugarte at 5.63 and Jose Mauricio Colque Mamani at 5.72. Over on the Skewb tables, Matias Raúl Angulo Gutierrez secured first place with a 4.66 average, fending off Miguel Angel Choque Cama at 5.04 and Cabezas Luizaga at 5.22. Angulo Gutierrez also found success across multiple disciplines during the meet.

Away from the championship tier, the heart of the speed cubing gathering lay in the dramatic personal milestones logged across the tables. Leandro Humberto Sivila Maldonado took on three events and slashed his 2x2x2 Cube personal best to 5.02, an improvement of 61.6 percent. Leandro Nicolas Martinez Alfaro entered two events at his second career competition, setting a 2x2x2 Cube mark of 5.53 on his first ever attempt while cutting his Rubik's Cube best down to 20.26, a massive 54 percent drop. Jairo Cristopher Cespedes Medrano also posted a maiden 3.14 on 2x2x2 Cube and shaved 51.5 percent off his 3x3x3 Cube best to reach 14.75.

First-time official attempts and heavy progress continued throughout the lower brackets. Johann Alejandro Zamorano Rodriguez delivered a 41.9 percent reduction to register a 12.93 personal best in Pyraminx across his three events. Nahuel Teran Garcia logged his first ever 2x2x2 Cube attempt at 5.95 while improving his 3x3x3 Cube time by 35.3 percent to 13.85. Aaron Alejandro Claros Calderon entered four events, posting his first Skewb attempt of 15.88 and placing 12th. Debutants also seized their chances at this WCA competition, with Mikael Samir Marca Rengel tackling four events including an initial 32.87 Pyraminx mark, while Fabiana Muñoz Chambi took on three events and set a 9.33 Pyraminx opener.

The longer formats closed out the schedule with exacting puzzle control on the twelve-sided Megaminx and the shifting geometries of Square-1. Nancy Garcés Hazou prevailed in Megaminx, capturing first place with a sub-minute average of 55.64 and a single of 51.69, leading Matias Raúl Angulo Gutierrez at 57.71 and Delgado at 58.78. In Square-1, Samuel Antonio Cruz Coareti dominated the nine-person field, winning with a 10.59 average and a sharp 9.30 single to finish ahead of Abner Aron Angulo Ledezma at 16.15 and Angulo Gutierrez at 20.41.

From Delgado double gold performance to the breakthroughs achieved across all 11 rounds, UPB Cubing 2024 served as an emphatic celebration of Bolivian puzzle solving. The single-day schedule tested endurance, precision, and focus under the stopwatch. With national rivals pushing each other across both classic and side events, this cubing competition added another memorable chapter to the region sporting calendar as solvers now turn their focus to the challenges of the upcoming season.
