Inside the halls of the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín, the familiar rhythm of turning plastic and dropping timers set the tone for an intense weekend of puzzle solving. A field of 86 competitors gathered across October 7 and October 8 for UNSA Speedcubing Primavera 2023, filling the venue with intense focus as eight rounds of preliminary heats began. Many had made long journeys across Arequipa, Peru and from international shores to test their skills at this high-altitude meeting, bringing diverse techniques to the competition tables.

Deturche crossed thousands of miles to join the local Peruvian contingent, taking on a packed schedule that spanned nearly every discipline on the roster. Across 18 rounds in 10 events, the 2023 WCA competition delivered fierce battles for podium spots, pitting well-traveled international talent against determined regional solvers in front of the official timing equipment.
