Versatility Shines in Cali as Ale Restrepo Sweeps Five Events at Único Cali 2024English
The bustling atmosphere inside the Centro Comercial Único Cali set the stage for an intense day of twisting and turning as competitive speedcubing returned to Valle del Cauca. On October 6, 2024, thirty competitors gathered ready to tackle everything from the classic Rubik's Cube to specialized geometric twisty puzzles. The schedule challenged participants across a vast array of disciplines, shifting rapidly between big cubes, rotating dials, tetrahedral shapes, and corner-turning mechanics, demanding complete mastery across eleven fast-paced rounds.
This wide spectrum of disciplines was the defining feature of Único Cali 2024, showcasing the dynamic range of modern speed cubing. Across six distinct events, solvers adapted their finger tricks and lookahead strategies between wildly different hardware. While the traditional 3x3x3 Cube drew the largest lineup of the day, the single-day cubing competition put equal emphasis on quick-fire sprints and complex multi-layered puzzles, proving that dexterity in Cali requires a versatile set of skills across every category on the table.
The standard 3x3x3 Cube provided a fiercely contested final round that brought the event to a thrilling climax. Fabián Andrés Mina Sandoval captured the top spot on the podium with a winning average of 9.75 seconds, backed by a best single of 8.68 seconds.
