Ulaanbaatar Cubing Challenge Jan 2024 Celebrates Speedcubing CommunityEnglish

A total of 76 competitors gathered under one roof as the Ulaanbaatar Cubing Challenge Jan 2024 brought the regional speedcubing community together on January 20, 2024. Held at the UBH Center in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the one-day gathering captured the welcoming spirit of a bustling cubing competition. Side events sat alongside classic disciplines, giving longtime friends and newcomers alike the chance to share tables, compare setups, and follow every turn across a compact schedule of four distinct disciplines.

The atmosphere throughout the venue remained collaborative and energetic from the morning scramble to the final podium presentations. Between active solving flights, participants traded advice on finger tricks, shared hardware modifications, and tracked progress across the day. Speed cubing in the capital demonstrated how tightly knit the local scene has become, where every personal milestone received as much encouragement from peers in the staging area as the fastest official times on stage.

In the flagship Rubik's Cube category, 75 solvers took to the tables for a direct, single-round test of consistency and precision. Myagmardorj Ulziijargal secured victory in the event, logging a winning average of 7.31 seconds alongside the day's best single of 6.72 seconds. Temuulen Tserendagva claimed second place on the podium with a 7.60 average, while Gegeenbileg Naranchimeg followed in third with an 8.23 average, wrapping up an intense set of 3x3 results.

Beyond the main event, the side categories kept the energy high across the floor. The Pyraminx contest brought 50 participants to the stations, where Amarsanaa Enkhbaatar took top honours with an average of 2.83 seconds and a best single of 2.27 seconds. Khangai Erdenebileg finished as runner-up with a 3.06 average, while Buyantogtokh Batsaikhan rounded out the podium at 4.41 seconds. In Skewb, 29 entrants contested the round, culminating in a first-place finish for Uuganbayar Bayalagnasan with a 3.67 average and a 1.74 single, ahead of Erkhemkhishig Batmunkh at 4.26 and Bilguun Soyolbaatar at 5.28.

The 2x2x2 Cube event saw 63 competitors enter the fray, highlighting rapid turning across every attempt. Temuulen Tserendagva led the standings with a winning mark of 2.28 seconds on average and a 1.92 single. Orgil Otgonbayar took the second step on the podium with an average of 2.63 seconds, while Khuslen Narmandakh captured third place with a 3.30 average, ending a remarkably fast series of solves.

Beneath the headline podiums, the heart of the Ulaanbaatar Cubing Challenge Jan 2024 lay in the quiet progress made throughout the roster. Chandmani Munkhjargal took on three events and delivered a 59.4 percent reduction on Pyraminx with a personal best of 5.59 seconds, while also making a first attempt at Skewb in 10.99. Baljinnyam Bat-Erdene logged a 22.18 personal best on the 3x3x3 Cube, which was 46.3 percent faster than before, alongside a first 2x2x2 Cube mark of 6.94. Tsogt Gankhulug improved their 2x2x2 Cube best to 4.29 seconds, 43.5 percent faster, and Erkhembileg Tamir dropped their 3x3x3 Cube mark by 30.9 percent to 9.83 while taking on Skewb for the first time.

The depth of progress continued across the lineup with more milestones across the scoresheets. Tenuun Munkhbayar entered four events and posted a Skewb personal best of 7.94 seconds, cutting 33.8 percent from their previous standard. Khosbayar Tsogtbaatar improved their Pyraminx best by 31.5 percent down to 9.20 seconds. With 12 podium spots earned across four events, the single-day gathering in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, underscored the shared momentum across the local community. The Ulaanbaatar Cubing Challenge Jan 2024 closed with solvers packing up their gear, celebrating individual breakthroughs, and looking forward to the next season of competition.
