Located in Mariakerke (Ghent), Belgium, the gathering brought together eighty-eight competitors eager to test their skills at Twist and Turn Ghent 2026. The two-day WCA competition brought deep fields across classic twisty puzzles and specialised categories alike, drawing competitors from Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Italy, Poland, and Argentina. Every stage offered a clear measure of progression for veterans and rising talents navigating the busy spring calendar.

The marquee Rubik's Cube category featured seventy-six contenders across three intense stages of solving. Victor Roets claimed top honours in the final, securing victory with an exceptional winning average of 7.87 seconds, backed by a best single solve of 6.95 seconds. France's Valentin Wojtasinski took second place with an 8.13 average, while Bowen Xie completed the podium in third with an 8.23 mark. The 3x3 results capped a weekend of precise execution and rapid turns at the top of the order.

Le-Duy Vu proved to be the weekend's most prolific champion, capturing four individual titles across the larger cubes and specialised disciplines. Vu won the 4x4x4 Cube with a 30.10 average, followed up with a 49.35 average to take the 5x5x5 Cube, and added the 6x6x6 Cube victory with a mark of 1:43.03 ahead of Matthias Schegers and Bowen Xie. Vu also secured the top spot in 3x3x3 One-Handed with an average of 14.18 seconds, completing an impressive clean sweep across diverse formats.

Matthias Schegers captured the 7x7x7 Cube title with an average of 2:39.49, holding off Nicolas Dupuis and Le-Duy Vu in a strong showing for Belgian competitors. In the Pyraminx, Félicien Steux prevailed in a razor-thin final, taking first place with a 3.32 average over Younes Benbouta at 3.35 and Schegers at 3.40. Luca Dalton of Argentina secured the 2x2x2 Cube title with an average of 2.06, finishing ahead of Maxwell Praet and Joran Pauwels.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several competitors made substantial breakthroughs and ventured into unfamiliar disciplines. Tobi Janssen took on seven events and delivered a massive personal best of 3:20.47 in the 6x6x6 Cube, improving by 51.5 percent, while also dropping 17 percent in 5x5x5 Cube to 1:42.45 and recording 17.50 in 3x3x3 One-Handed for a seventh-place finish. Eden Duquesne posted a 3.92 personal best in Pyraminx to improve by 42.4 percent, added an 11.53 Clock mark, and logged a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with 29.57. Alexander Croisiau shaved 41.1 percent off his Pyraminx mark down to 3.43 for a tenth-place finish, while also recording his first ever attempts in 3x3x3 One-Handed and 4x4x4 Cube.

First-time event entries and sharp improvements continued across the board throughout Twist and Turn Ghent 2026. Josse Bal registered a 29.4 percent personal best in 3x3x3 Cube at 12.62 seconds, while logging first ever attempts at 3x3x3 Blindfolded in 5:10.23 and 2x2x2 Cube in 5.13. Mathis Declerck improved his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 20.2 percent to 10.37 and recorded his first official solves in Megaminx and 4x4x4 Cube. Jasper Maes posted a 41.27 in 4x4x4 Cube alongside his first ever attempts at 7x7x7 Cube and 3x3x3 One-Handed. Thomas Andris made his first attempt at 2x2x2 Cube while cutting his 3x3x3 Cube time by 29.3 percent to 1:09.08, and Léo Mestdagh completed his first official attempts in Clock and 2x2x2 Cube.

The blindfolded categories demanded supreme concentration and memory execution. Corentin Thomée took the 3x3x3 Blindfolded crown with a single solve of 23.35 seconds, leading Oskar Feed Jakobsen of Norway and Jérôme Carlier. In the 4x4x4 Blindfolded event, Carlier claimed the title with a time of 13:54.00, finishing ahead of Ralph Eikelenberg. Bowen Xie added another victory to his tally by winning the 5x5x5 Blindfolded event in 15:28.00 over Manu Vereecken and Joran Pauwels.

The weekend concluded with notable wins in the remaining rotational events. Victoria Géonet triumphed in the Megaminx with a winning average of 44.70, while Joran Pauwels posted a 4.00 average to win Clock. With thirty-six podium spots claimed by home solvers from Belgium alongside top finishes from across the continent, this speed cubing weekend showcased top-tier talent. As the season pushes forward, the memorable performances at Twist and Turn Ghent 2026 will stand as a high watermark for the spring.

From lightning-fast sprints on smaller puzzles to intense hour-long blindfolded solves, Twist and Turn Ghent 2026 offered a complete celebration of technical puzzle solving. Victor Roets zette het absolute hoogtepunt neer in het VISO Mariakerke door de koningsklasse van het speedcubing te winnen met een gemiddelde van 7.87 seconden. De Belgische deelnemer liet met een beste poging van 6.95 seconden het veld van 76 deelnemers achter zich in de 3x3x3 Cube. Het zilver ging naar Valentin Wojtasinski uit Frankrijk met 8.13 seconden, terwijl de Belg Bowen Xie het brons veiligstelde met een gemiddelde van 8.23 seconden. Daarmee zette het toernooi meteen de toon voor een weekend vol nationale successen in Mariakerke (Ghent), Belgium.

Het toernooi Twist and Turn Ghent 2026 bracht op 18 en 19 april 2026 in totaal 88 cubers samen voor 21 rondes verdeeld over 13 verschillende evenementen. De lokale delegatie bleek nagenoeg onverslaanbaar op eigen bodem, met een overdonderend totaal van 36 podiumplaatsen voor België. Frankrijk pakte 4 podiumplekken, Noorwegen 2, terwijl Argentinië en Nederland elk 1 podiumplaats mee naar huis namen. Van de klassieke Rubik's Cube tot de meest complexe formaten leverde het evenement een aaneenschakeling van spannende ontknopingen op.

De absolute grootmeester van het weekend was Le-Duy Vu, die een indrukwekkende reeks van vier individuele overwinningen opeiste. Hij domineerde de 4x4x4 Cube met een winnend gemiddelde van 30.10 seconden en een snelste tijd van 26.92 seconden. Ook in de 5x5x5 Cube was hij superieur met 49.35 seconden als winnend gemiddelde, gevolgd door een triomf bij het 3x3x3 One-Handed met 14.18 seconden. Tot slot bekroonde Vu zijn weekend door de 6x6x6 Cube te winnen in 1:43.03, nipt voor landgenoot Matthias Schegers die finishte in 1:45.11.

Matthias Schegers nam op zijn beurt revanche op de grootste kubus van het programma door de 7x7x7 Cube overtuigend naar zich toe te trekken in een gemiddelde van 2:39.49. Hij hield daarmee Nicolas Dupuis en Le-Duy Vu achter zich op een volledig Belgisch podium. In het razendsnelle Pyraminx-evenement pakte Félicien Steux de gouden medaille met een scherpe 3.32 seconden, waarmee hij de Fransman Younes Benbouta met 3.35 seconden en Schegers met 3.40 seconden voorbleef. Victoria Géonet triomfeerde bij de Megaminx met een solide gemiddelde van 44.70 seconden, terwijl Joran Pauwels de winst greep op Clock in 4.00 seconden.

Buitenlandse successen waren schaars maar krachtig, met Luca Dalton uit Argentinië die de 2x2x2 Cube won dankzij een gemiddelde van 2.06 seconden en een snelste beurt van 1.28 seconden. Maxwell Praet werd tweede in 2.30 seconden, net voor Joran Pauwels met 2.33 seconden. Bij het geblindeerd oplossen toonde Corentin Thomée zijn klasse in 3x3x3 Blindfolded met een winnende tijd van 23.35 seconden voor Oskar Feed Jakobsen uit Noorwegen. Jérôme Carlier zegevierde in de 4x4x4 Blindfolded met 13:54.00, terwijl Bowen Xie goud pakte op de 5x5x5 Blindfolded in 15:28.00 voor Manu Vereecken en Joran Pauwels.

Naast de strijd om de medailles kende deze cubing competition tal van spectaculaire persoonlijke vooruitgangen. Olivier Marechal maakte enorme sprongen door zijn persoonlijk record op de 3x3x3 Cube met maar liefst 44.8 procent te verbeteren naar 15.71 seconden, terwijl hij op de 2x2x2 Cube met 6.76 seconden 38 procent sneller was dan ooit tevoren. Wudi Yao verbeterde zijn beste tijd op de 3x3x3 Cube met 20.9 procent naar 1:21.17 en zette met 22.00 seconden tevens zijn allereerste officiële poging op de 2x2x2 Cube neer. Olaf Weijters werkte een zwaar programma van elf onderdelen af, behaalde een zesde plaats op Megaminx en boekte persoonlijke records op 3x3x3 Blindfolded met 2:19.35, Clock met 7.38 seconden en Megaminx met 50.17 seconden. Lewis Van Ballaer deed mee aan vijf evenementen, realiseerde zijn eerste poging op Clock met 47.00 seconden en verbeterde zijn beste tijden op Pyraminx naar 11.86 seconden en 3x3x3 Cube naar 27.16 seconden.

Voor meerdere deelnemers vormde het toernooi de allereerste ervaring op een officieel WCA competition podium. Aiden DeBruyne debuteerde meteen in zes disciplines, met als beste resultaat een 21e plaats op Pyraminx naast eerste pogingen van 5.05 seconden op de 2x2x2 Cube, 1:13.44 op de 4x4x4 Cube en 50.88 seconden op 3x3x3 One-Handed. Loïc Monsecour debuteerde sterk met een eerste 3x3x3 Cube tijd van 28.27 seconden en 7.20 seconden op de 2x2x2 Cube. Etienne Vanderhaegen voltooide zijn debuut met 6.95 seconden op de 2x2x2 Cube, terwijl Lars Van Driessche zijn allereerste WCA-resultaat noteerde met 54.71 seconden op de klassieke kubus.

Het toernooi Twist and Turn Ghent 2026 sloot daarmee af als een buitengewoon geslaagd sportweekend in Mariakerke. Met een massale medailleoogst van 36 podiumplaatsen toonde de Belgische delegatie haar uitzonderlijke breedte over alle kubusformaten heen. Zowel de meervoudige overwinningen van Le-Duy Vu als de vele persoonlijke mijlpalen van debutanten maakten het evenement tot een gedenkwaardig ijkpunt voor het nationale speedcubing in 2026.
