Diverse Array of Puzzles Highlights Fast Weekend at Trikala Open 2025English

Ninety-five competitors assembled across sixteen rounds of intense puzzle action in Trikala, Greece, demonstrating an extensive spectrum of speedcubing disciplines. Held on February 15 and 16 at the Ananti Hotel Trikala, Trikala Open 2025 offered a robust nine-event schedule that tested solvers across mechanical formats of every shape and scale. From the swift, instinctive dexterity required for two-layered cubes to the memory and concentration of blindfolded attempts, the cubing competition showcased the multifaceted technical skills required across modern events.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube contest stood out as the centerpiece among the 3x3 results, drawing eighty-eight participants across three rounds. Konstantinos Topouzidis captured the championship title with a winning average of 8.73 seconds and an event-best single solve of 8.10 seconds. George Tsilimenis took second place on the podium with an 8.93 average, while Nikolas Belalidis secured third position with a 9.05 mark. Solvers handling the classic Rubik's Cube demonstrated exceptional efficiency, setting a high standard of precision throughout every stage of the weekend.

The range of hardware formats provided distinct tests of speed cubing versatility, beginning with the 2x2x2 Cube where Konstantinos Topouzidis earned another victory. Topouzidis clinched the top spot with a 2.12 average, finishing just ahead of Panagiotis Dimitropoulos who recorded a 2.18 average. Ioannis Ntalis rounded out the podium in third place at 2.39. In the mid-sized 4x4x4 Cube, Nikolas Belalidis proved dominant, securing first place with a winning average of 33.42 seconds and a single solve of 29.88 seconds, finishing clear of Zois Lefkidis and George Tsilimenis.

Larger cubic puzzles demanded sustained endurance and tactical planning, led by Vasilis Prigkos who claimed two gold finishes across the weekend. Prigkos took the 5x5x5 Cube title with a 1:01.06 average and a single solve of 59.58 seconds, holding off runner-up Ilias Nikolaou and third-place Nikolas Belalidis. Prigkos repeated his success in the single-round 6x6x6 Cube contest, recording a winning average of 1:59.68 with a single mark of 1:53.26 against a field of twenty-four dedicated big-cube specialists.

Non-cubic and specialty disciplines rounded out the variety on display across the tournament schedule. In Pyraminx, Nikolas Baxevanis emerged victorious with a 3.44 average, outpacing Dimitris Papazoglou and Ioannis Ntalis. The Clock event saw Panagiotis Christopoulos secure first place with a 5.50 average, followed by Ioannis Ntalis and George Tsilimenis. In one-handed solving, Iasonas Mylonas took top honors in the 3x3x3 One-Handed division with a 15.38 average, edging George Tsilimenis and Ilias Nikolaou in a tightly contested final.

Mental discipline defined the 3x3x3 Blindfolded division, where competitors had to fully memorize piece orientations before donning a blindfold to execute the solution. Thodoris Iatrou captured victory with a winning average of 57.70 seconds and a standout single time of 48.11 seconds. Panagiotis Ioakeimidis earned the silver spot with a time of 1:01.76, while Nikos Kolovos placed third with 1:40.89, highlighting the intense focus required when navigating complex spatial patterns entirely from memory without visual feedback.

Behind the top podium spots, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across their chosen events. Chrysafis Anastasiadis tackled all nine events on the program, achieving a best finish of ninth in 3x3x3 Blindfolded while logging a first attempt at the 6x6x6 Cube in 4:05.22, a first 3x3x3 One-Handed solve of 39.85, and cutting his Pyraminx personal best to 4.79, an improvement of 51.4 percent. Adrianos Gouvelis competed across four events, placing eighth in Clock and shaving 44.5 percent off his 2x2x2 Cube personal best with a 1.93 result, alongside an improved 3x3x3 Cube best of 10.18 and a 1:08.52 in the 4x4x4 Cube. Dimitris Karageorgos posted a first attempt of 1.97 in 2x2x2 Cube and brought his 3x3x3 Cube best down to 13.36, a 37.5 percent reduction.
