Sartori and Kitak Lead the Charge Through a Packed Field at Trieste Speedcubing 2024English

Daniel Sartori delivered the definitive performance of the weekend at PalaCalvola, posting a scorching 6.93 winning average and a 6.01 single to capture the 3x3x3 Cube title. That victory capped an intense single-day meeting where 56 competitors battled across eight rounds. With qualifying cuts proving unforgiving at every stage, advancing deep into the schedule required razor-sharp execution from the opening solves. The action in Trieste, Italy demonstrated the surging depth across the regional speedcubing circuit as contenders fought for every fraction of a second.

The 3x3x3 Cube contest stood out as the centerpiece of this WCA competition, demanding three full rounds to separate the contenders. Sartori led the charge for the host nation, holding off Giacomo Daniele Corò, who claimed the runner-up position with an average of 7.85. Oskar Vidiček of Slovenia rounded out the podium in third place with an 8.93 mark. The crowded field made the final 3x3 results a genuine testament to consistency under pressure, as dozens of hopefuls fell short across the preliminary heats.

Beyond the traditional Rubik's Cube, the schedule tested dexterity across multiple formats. Slovenia found major success through Jakob Kitak, who secured a golden double. In the 2x2x2 Cube, Kitak prevailed over 45 competitors with a 2.73 winning average and a 1.96 single, leading a competitive podium where Sebastiano Leschiutta took second in 2.89 and Alessio Pandin secured third in 2.93. Kitak then added a second title in the Pyraminx, outpacing 38 entrants with a 2.94 average ahead of fellow Slovenians Matej Brkić and Oskar Vidiček.

Big cubes brought another showcase of technical skill and tactical pacing. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Giacomo Daniele Corò turned the tables to seize victory with a 28.50 average and a 27.73 single, finishing ahead of Daniel Sartori's 30.80 and Simone Cantarelli's 37.41. Sartori bounced right back in the 5x5x5 Cube, mastering the larger layers to post a 52.36 winning average and a 48.40 single. Corò followed in second at 58.53, while Vidiček secured his third podium of the meet with a 1:06.05 average.

The one-handed event pushed technical dexterity to the limit across a bracket of 32 entrants. Tomaž Saje delivered an outstanding run to win 3x3x3 One-Handed with an average of 13.46 and a single of 12.42. That sharp display kept him comfortably clear of Corò, who posted a 17.97 average for second place, and Vidiček, who clocked 18.06 for third. The podium finishes reflected the strong cross-border rivalry throughout the event, with Italian solvers earning ten podium spots and Slovenian competitors taking eight.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across the busy schedule. Ada Bečić delivered an extraordinary breakthrough in the Pyraminx, cutting her personal best down to 8.31 from 22.73, an improvement of 63.4 percent, while also dropping her 2x2x2 Cube mark by 28.4 percent to 17.59. Beniamino Casali trimmed his 2x2x2 Cube best by 38.6 percent to 4.21 and improved his 3x3x3 Cube time by 37.8 percent to 23.76.
