Keita Hayakawa and Takumi Kawazoe Capture Titles at Tokyo Spring AM 2025English

A blistering 19.72 winning average in the 3x3x3 Blindfolded final marked the definitive high point of Tokyo Spring AM 2025 as Keita Hayakawa put together a dominant, unmatched performance. In an event where competitors must execute memorisation and turning without looking at the puzzle, Hayakawa set the benchmark across two rounds of intense competition. His performance, backed by a tournament best single of 17.66 seconds, placed him well clear of a 47-person field and anchored the action in Ota, Tokyo, Japan.

Held on April 20, 2025, the gathering at the Ota Civic Plaza brought together 94 competitors to contest two featured events across four complete rounds. The compact schedule created an energetic cubing competition atmosphere, drawing elite specialists and ambitious challengers from Japan and abroad. Speedcubing in the capital region continues to exhibit high-end depth, and this WCA competition delivered sharp showdowns from the opening scrambles through the podium deciders on Sunday morning.

The flagship Rubik's Cube division brought 88 competitors to the tables, creating intense pressure across both scheduled rounds. Takumi Kawazoe emerged on top of the standings, capturing the 3x3x3 Cube crown with a composed 8.65 winning average in the final round. Kawazoe combined steady execution with raw pace, securing the title ahead of a relentless chasing group while registering an event best single time of 7.81 seconds along the way.

Podium positions in the traditional 3x3 results remained fiercely contested until the final solves. Hirotaka Ito claimed the silver medal with a 9.10 average, while Will Cerne of the United States earned bronze with a 9.45 mark, preventing a full Japanese sweep across the weekend. Across two rounds of classic speed cubing, finalists pushed their routines to the absolute limit to stay within reach of Kawazoe.

Behind the top podium spots, several competitors posted significant breakthroughs that redefined their individual resumes on the WCA stage. Ikki Onishi delivered a dramatic improvement in the 3x3x3 Cube, posting a personal best of 8.58 seconds, an enormous 53.8 percent drop from a previous mark of 18.58, on the way to a sixth-place finish across his two events. Soshi Eguchi lowered his 3x3x3 Blindfolded personal best by 44.4 percent to 49.09 seconds while securing tenth in the standard 3x3, and Keigo Namikoshi shaved 42.9 percent off his previous standard mark by registering a 28.94 single.

Other rising entrants took on new challenges and achieved major personal milestones. Kanako Eguchi took 11th place in 3x3x3 Blindfolded while dropping her personal best by 30.5 percent down to 37.12 seconds. Yoshiki Ninomiya set a new 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 13.00 seconds, cutting 26.6 percent from his previous best. Torakazu Onota tackled two events, earning 12th in blindfolded solving with a first attempt of 49.45 while slashing his 3x3x3 single by 22.5 percent to 11.73. Yamato Sugita recorded his first blindfolded attempt at 3:15.52, and Ryuichi Hayase logged his first official 3x3x3 Cube attempt with a quick 12.75.

The blindfolded final provided an equally dramatic conclusion to the morning program. Behind Hayakawa, Yuki Tsuneyoshi secured second place on the podium with a 27.71 average, while Masato Fujiwara took third place after delivering a rapid 24.46 single. With memory limits and tactile precision tested under strict competition conditions, the event proved to be one of the cleanest showcases of mental discipline seen in the 2025 season.

With five podium finishes going to Japanese solvers alongside an international bronze for the United States, Tokyo Spring AM 2025 concluded as a swift and memorable display of elite puzzle solving. As competitors departed Ota, Tokyo, Japan, the standard for the spring calendar had been firmly established by Hayakawa, Kawazoe, and the dozens of entrants who set new career benchmarks.
