Sharp Turns and Narrow Margins Define Tokai Summer 2025 in NagoyaEnglish

The tournament floor inside Aichi Industry and Labor Center WINC Aichi was filled with focused intensity on July 27, 2025. Rows of timers and display screens lined the venue as 94 competitors gathered for a single concentrated day of high-level puzzle solving. With single-round formats putting immense pressure on every solve, the room carried the steady rhythm of quick inspections followed by rapid turns. Every solve carried serious weight across the three scheduled disciplines.

In competitive speedcubing formats where every turn matters, there is no safety cushion for errors. A single mistimed algorithm or slight lockup can dismantle an entire average in an instant. Speed cubing demands complete consistency across every start and stop of the timer, and the stakes were elevated in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan where solvers had just one round to prove their form. Competitors had to balance pure turning velocity against the constant threat of a costly mistake.

The 5x5x5 Cube event highlighted how thin the line between victory and defeat can be. Amey Gaba of India captured first place with a winning average of 54.39 seconds, complemented by a single solve of 48.33 seconds across a field of 46 competitors. Noah Calderon-Kamata of the United Kingdom pushed hard to finish second with a 54.54 average, while Takeru Iguchi of Japan earned third place right behind them at 54.64. Just a quarter of a second separated the top three finishers.

In the 3x3x3 One-Handed event, 53 competitors stepped forward to solve the classic puzzle with a single hand. Takumi Kato delivered a dominant showing to take victory with an average of 10.26 seconds, bolstered by the best single time of 7.24 seconds. Noah Calderon-Kamata secured another podium spot by claiming second place with a 13.06 average, while Yuki Matsui rounded out the top three for Japan with a solid 13.21 mark.

Beyond the top podium steps, several solvers delivered standout milestones across multiple categories. Ryan Huang entered three events and secured a 25th-place finish in 5x5x5 Cube, improving their 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best to 20.24, which was 62.4 percent faster than their previous mark, alongside an 8.8 percent improvement in 5x5x5 Cube to 1:22.49. Shota Watanabe recorded a 33 percent reduction on their 3x3x3 Cube personal best down to 6.87 seconds and logged a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with 27.24. Yuto Yamada achieved a personal best of 9.71 in 3x3x3 Cube, 24.4 percent faster, and posted a 33.28 in their first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed. Mitsuki Sugiura placed 11th in 3x3x3 Cube, improved their one-handed mark by 15.9 percent to 14.88, cut their 3x3x3 Cube best to 8.61, and logged a first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube of 1:20.08.

The progression continued through several multi-discipline efforts across the roster. Katsumi Seino achieved a 19th-place finish in 5x5x5 Cube while completing a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed in 21.47 and a first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 1:11.68. Ojiro Nakagami improved their 3x3x3 Cube mark to 13.72, a 15.3 percent jump, while making a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with 41.82. Kodai Ueda entered three events, taking 31st in 5x5x5 Cube, setting personal bests of 1:32.17 in 5x5x5 Cube and 10.60 in 3x3x3 Cube, and completing a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed in 32.72. Ryosei Yamada also took on three events, achieving an 11.2 percent personal best improvement to 21.60 in 3x3x3 One-Handed and logging a first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 1:45.11.

The main Rubik's Cube competition drew 92 competitors to the tables for a fast-paced single round. Masaya Nakamoto earned top honors with a winning average of 7.34 seconds and a best single of 6.36 seconds. Kantaro Sakamoto finished closely behind in second place with a 7.46 average and a 6.98 single, while Noah Calderon-Kamata completed an impressive three-podium haul by taking third place with an average of 7.59. The official 3x3 results confirmed the remarkable depth of the event.

International representation was strong across the board, with Japan claiming 5 podium places, the United Kingdom earning 3, and India capturing 1. Tokai Summer 2025 provided an intense platform for both established frontrunners and emerging competitors to test their preparation under demanding single-round conditions.
