Mitsuki Gunji captured victory in the 3x3x3 Cube with a winning average of 10.20 seconds, sealed by a sharp 8.66 single to lead the standings. The decisive set of solves capped a focused contest where every turn on the timer mattered. Held in Kariya, Aichi, Japan on March 31, 2024, the gathering brought together a dedicated field of 38 competitors for a single high-stakes round. The single-event format created an intense atmosphere where solvers had only one opportunity to post their marks.

The meeting served as a premier WCA competition for the region, concentrating solely on the classic Rubik's Cube. Staged at the Kariya Central Lifelong Learning Center, Tokai Challenge Alpha 2024 delivered high-energy speedcubing as contenders from across Japan and abroad gathered to measure their skills against the clock. The format allowed no margin for error across the five solves, demanding total consistency from the opening turns through the final drops of the puzzle onto the timing mats.

Gunji set the standard early with an 8.66 single, which held up as the fastest solve of the entire day. His steady pace across the remaining attempts secured the top average of 10.20 seconds. China's Zijia Feng pushed hard throughout the session, posting a best single of 9.12 seconds on the way to a second-place average of 10.82 seconds. Hayato Kai claimed the final podium position for Japan, locking in an 11.00-second average alongside a single of 9.92 seconds to complete an exceptional top three.

Just off the podium, Daiki Nishii registered a 10.46 single and an 11.43 average to secure fourth place, while Yusei Kawasaki finished fifth with an average of 12.54 seconds backed by a 10.55 single. China's Yiwei Liu followed in sixth position with a 12.83 average and an 11.87 single. Mitsuki Sugiura recorded an average of 13.65, Kenya Yahata logged a 14.22 average, Ikkei Wada marked a 14.42 average, and Kyan Roerdink posted an average of 14.71 to round out the top ten in the final 3x3 results.

Beyond the fight for medals, the official cubing competition saw remarkable personal milestones across the running order. Haruto Yoshida delivered an extraordinary breakthrough by dropping his personal best to 13.16 seconds, an improvement of 50.2 percent from his earlier 26.44 mark, earning 12th place in his second career outing. Eito Yoshida similarly made huge strides in his second official tournament, setting a personal best of 25.15 seconds that was 44 percent faster than his prior 44.89, finishing 35th. Gaku Kikuchi advanced his best solve to 16.70 seconds, slicing 35.1 percent off his previous 25.75 to take 16th place. Yusuke Suzuki recorded an 18.40 single in his 29th career appearance, bettering his previous 26.39 mark by 30.3 percent to place 21st.

The rapid progression continued down the leaderboard as Teruki Uno locked in an 18th-place result behind a personal best of 15.04 seconds, cutting 24.5 percent off his earlier 19.93 time. Daiki Nishii showcased great form across his ninth competition, dropping his personal record to 10.46 seconds, which was 23.2 percent faster than his previous best of 13.62. Yusei Kawasaki took fifth place while shaving 22.2 percent off his old 13.56 benchmark with a new standard of 10.55 seconds. Ryosei Yamada also climbed the rankings to 17th position with a personal record of 15.84 seconds, improving 16.5 percent from an earlier 18.96 baseline.

The clean execution and narrow margins underscored the vibrant state of speed cubing in the region throughout 2024. With 38 solvers stepping up to the tables, Tokai Challenge Alpha 2024 demonstrated how a tightly focused single-round structure can produce dramatic shifts on the scoresheet. Every solver faced identical conditions, turning the spotlight entirely onto solve efficiency and rapid fingertricks under standard World Cube Association regulations.

As the timers reset and the equipment cleared in Kariya, the results highlighted both seasoned speedcubers and rising talent pushing their capabilities to new levels. Podium places went to two competitors from Japan and one from China, highlighting strong regional competition. With fast times logged and personal milestones achieved across the board, the tournament left a lasting mark on the Japanese circuit as participants look forward to future challenges in upcoming seasons.
