Titan Big N' Blind 2024 Brings Heavy Puzzles and Blindfolded Records to SantiagoEnglish

A blistering 25.95 single solve by France's Eddy Deturche in the blindfolded category set the definitive tone for Titan Big N' Blind 2024. As the late-season calendar shifted toward specialised disciplines, the two-day gathering in Santiago, Chile delivered elite precision across big cubes and memory challenges. Held at Titan 5084 across September 7 and September 8, the meeting gathered a focused field of 15 competitors across 13 rounds of play, testing endurance and mental clarity at an advanced stage of the 2024 speedcubing campaign.

The specialised lineup diverged sharply from standard tournaments that focus primarily on classic Rubik's Cube events. While typical tournament schedules centre on standard 3x3 results, this WCA competition placed heavy demands on puzzle volume and memory. Across seven grueling events, contenders tackled everything from complex dodecahedrons to massive layered cubes, marking a distinct phase in the regional speed cubing season where technical mastery superseded sheer sprinting speed.

The 3x3x3 Blindfolded division delivered the most significant historical mark of the weekend. Deturche claimed the top step of the podium with his 25.95 winning single, but Chilean competitor Sebastián Yuste Lucero provided the local highlight by setting a new Chilean national record single of 27.77 to secure second place. Rodrigo Lucas Pardo rounded out the podium with a third-place single of 2:18.04, closing out an intense final round where cognitive discipline determined every placing.

Deturche doubled his gold medal haul in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, an event demanding competitors memorise multiple cubes under a strict time cap. The French competitor successfully solved 21 out of 25 cubes within 59:11 to take first place. Sebastián Yuste Lucero secured second position by registering 23 out of 32 cubes in 59:45, while Cristóbal Opazo Bravo completed a clean 2 out of 2 attempt in 14:00 to finish third in the six-person field.

Beyond the memory specialists, the large cube events generated fierce domestic competition at Titan Big N' Blind 2024. Claudio Matias Cancino Bruna led the charge in the 5x5x5 Cube, taking victory with an average of 51.54 seconds and a best single of 49.73 across two rounds. Felipe Medel secured second place with a 54.20 average, while Agustín Mera Landa finished third with 59.48. Cancino Bruna repeated his winning form in the 6x6x6 Cube, recording an average of 1:39.37 to finish ahead of Medel at 1:44.68 and Diego Núñez at 1:50.34.

The lower and upper boundaries of the big cube spectrum saw titles spread among Chile's top contenders. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Felipe Medel claimed the championship with a winning average of 28.35 and a standout 26.67 single, holding off Cancino Bruna at 29.65 and Núñez at 32.82. In the 7x7x7 Cube, Diego Núñez took the top spot on the podium with a 2:34.07 average, followed by Medel at 2:46.94 and Cancino Bruna at 3:01.82, completing a balanced exchange of titles among the trio.

Megaminx action rounded out the non-cubic programming with exceptional speed over two rounds of competition. Sebastián Urbina captured the title with a tournament-leading 35.47 average and a 34.00 single solve. Matías Martínez took second place on the podium with an average of 39.34, while Rodrigo Lucas Pardo earned his second bronze of the weekend with a final round average of 43.21.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several competitors logged remarkable individual breakthroughs on the Santiago tables. Sofía Pulido contested three events across the weekend, producing a major personal best of 43.75 seconds in Megaminx, improving her previous mark of 51.88 by 15.7 percent and securing a 6th place finish. José Antonio Gaete also took on three events, delivering a sharp personal best of 1:39.65 in 5x5x5 Cube that eclipsed his prior 1:47.13 benchmark by 7 percent, alongside a 1:21.77 personal best in Megaminx.

The decisive weekend in Santiago, Chile concluded with Chilean competitors securing 19 of the 21 total podium positions, alongside two victories for France. As the competitive year moves toward its closing stretch, the high-level benchmarks achieved across seven demanding events at Titan Big N' Blind 2024 set an exacting standard for the next season of speedcubing in the region.
