Sanchez Peris Edges Thrilling 3x3 Final at Tio Pep Cubeja 2026English
A mere 0.13 seconds separated the top two finishers in the premier event at the Arxiu Municipal. That paper-thin margin decided the classic 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube final as David Sanchez Peris posted a winning average of 8.06 seconds across five solves. Pablo Amoraga Velasco applied relentless pressure right to the final turn, locking in an average of 8.19 seconds to secure the runner-up spot. Antonio Lopez finished just behind in third place with an average of 8.38 seconds. The three-round contest drew a full lineup of 45 competitors, with Sanchez Peris also securing the round's top single solve of 7.36 seconds.
The drama in the main event highlighted an intense weekend of speedcubing in Muro de Alcoy, Spain. Across August 1 and August 2, the venue hosted 18 rounds of head-to-head solving across six official disciplines. Spanish competitors swept all 18 podium positions available over the two days of competition. The high-stakes atmosphere delivered gripping finishes in nearly every bracket, but the narrow margins at the top of the 3x3 results remained the standout memory of the gathering in 2026.
Big cubes proved to be the personal domain of Antonio Lopez, who mounted an exceptional campaign across multiple rounds. Lopez captured three separate titles on the weekend, starting with a victory in the 5x5x5 Cube where he recorded a winning average of 54.60 seconds and a best single solve of 52.43 seconds. Elies Qin Lloret Garcia pressed hard in second place with an average of 55.49 seconds, while Pablo Amoraga Velasco took third with an average of 1:00.52. Lopez demonstrated complete mastery across the larger puzzles, managing the physical endurance and complex reduction phases required for the larger NxN cubes.
Lopez extended his dominance into the very largest events on the schedule. In the 6x6x6 Cube, his 1:35.51 average earned top honors alongside a round-best single of 1:22.00, besting Elies Qin Lloret Garcia who averaged 1:38.03 and Pablo Amoraga Velasco who placed third at 1:39.82. Lopez followed that up by taking the 7x7x7 Cube title with a 2:11.37 average and a 2:07.03 single solve. Garcia once again earned silver with an average of 2:20.86, and Amoraga Velasco rounded out the podium at 2:39.10, cementing an identical top three across all three large-cube disciplines.
The smaller puzzles brought blazing pace and tight turnarounds to the solving tables. In the 2x2x2 Cube, Alvaro Aguilar Salobrena dominated the field of 41 competitors by delivering a blistering 2.02 winning average and the best single of the event at 1.41 seconds. Lopez collected another medal by placing second with an average of 2.89 seconds, while Amoraga Velasco claimed third in 3.02 seconds. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Amoraga Velasco reached the top step of the podium with a winning average of 32.92 seconds and a single of 29.25 seconds, holding off Garcia at 33.42 seconds and Aguilar Salobrena at 34.27 seconds in another fiercely contested final.
Away from the championship hardware, the true depth of the speed cubing gathering emerged in individual milestones. Joaquin Lenis Plata delivered a massive 56.7 percent improvement on his 2x2x2 Cube personal best with a time of 3.91 seconds, dropped his 3x3x3 Cube best to 14.47 seconds, and completed his first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 2:02.11 across three events.
