Thai Cubers Dominate the Podiums at Thailand Warm Up 2023English
Thai competitors mounted an overwhelming showing across the board in Bangkok, Thailand, securing eight podium spots over two packed days of action on September 9 and 10. The speedcubing gathering at Fortune Town brought together 46 competitors across four demanding disciplines, culminating in 10 intense rounds. Headlining the weekend's achievements was Anawin Chaichana, whose masterful 50.23 average in the 3x3x3 Blindfolded final stood as a defining triumph for the host country.
The 3x3x3 Blindfolded event provided high tension from start to finish among 19 contenders. Solving blindfolded requires complete memorisation before executing turns in the dark, and Thailand Warm Up 2023 saw Chaichana navigate the final flawlessly with a winning average of 50.23 and a best single of 41.96. Fellow Thai competitor Korakot Inkaew followed closely in second place with a 55.93 average, while Ivan Li Ka Leong of Hong Kong locked in third place with a time of 1:06.64.
Beyond the blindfolded triumphs, the Megaminx division showcased another home-nation victory. In the 5x5x5 Cube, Li Ka Leong topped a 37-person field with a winning average of 46.57 and a best single of 42.47. Thailand's Asia Konvittayayotin earned second place with an average of 49.20, and Natthaphat Mahtani added another medal to his tally by taking third in 50.75 seconds.
The 7x7x7 Cube contest proved to be one of the closest battles of the entire WCA competition. Ivan Li Ka Leong secured his second victory of the weekend by posting a 2:18.26 average, just edging past Asia Konvittayayotin, who finished a mere fraction of a second behind with a 2:18.50 average. Natthaphat Mahtani rounded out the podium in third place with a solid 2:43.73 average in the 22-competitor bracket.
