Ishan Donavalli Dominates One-Handed Solving at Telangana Cube Championship 2024English
Inside the halls of the Vasavi College of Engineering, competitors bent over solving mats as the rhythmic clatter of plastic pieces echoed through the venue. Solvers warmed up their fingers, checked tensions, and reviewed algorithms beneath the bright tournament lights. Across three days from August 23 to August 25, the venue welcomed a packed schedule filled with intense focus and high-speed turns. A gathering of 151 competitors assembled in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, ready to test their preparation across 16 different disciplines in a premier speedcubing environment.
The 3x3x3 One-Handed event took center stage as a pure showcase of dexterity, finger strength, and ergonomic mastery. Solving with a single hand demands precise table manipulation, pinky flicks, and a deep understanding of move efficiency under pressure. Ishan Donavalli put on a technical clinic across three rounds of competition, ultimately claiming the title with a winning average of 14.31 seconds. Donavalli also delivered the event fastest single solve of 12.23 seconds, navigating a field of 60 competitors to secure the gold medal.
The classic Rubik's Cube brought 144 entrants together across three tense rounds of solving. Mohith B captured first place in the 3x3 results by posting a 7.85-second average in the final round, alongside the fastest single of the weekend at 6.92 seconds. Kunal Oak took second place on the podium with an 8.33 average, while Rishab Jain finished third with an 8.37 mark. Mohith B added another victory to his tally in the Megaminx, taking the top spot with a 50.79 winning average and a best single solve of 46.24 seconds.
Big cube specialists found plenty of dramatic moments across the weekend schedule, dominated largely by Kunal Oak. Oak delivered a clean sweep across the three largest rotational events, winning the 5x5x5 Cube with a 54.21 average, the 6x6x6 Cube in 1:35.91, and the 7x7x7 Cube with a mark of 2:22.18. In all three events, Hitesh Kumar Bhuwalka finished as the runner-up, while Ajit Kumar Kandikuppa earned third place across each corresponding podium, setting a remarkably consistent standard for the big cube division at the Telangana Cube Championship 2024.
Beyond the top podium steps, the weekend featured impressive personal milestones from several dedicated participants across multiple disciplines. Neela Eshaan took on four events, making a tournament debut in Skewb with a 20.50 solve while posting a massive personal best in the 2x2x2 Cube of 3.28 seconds, which was 78.9 percent faster than their previous mark.
