Community and Speed Collide as Competitors Gather at Taizhou Open 2025English

Inside the spacious halls of the Xianju National Sports Center, the hum of turning plastic and clicking timers defined the atmosphere as solvers shared scrambles, compared hardware, and reconnected across practice tables. The gathering brought 215 competitors together in Taizhou, Zhejiang, China on July 26, 2025. Between official calls to the staging area, participants spent their downtime analyzing fingertricks, testing different tensions, and catching up with friends from across the region. This lively spirit of camaraderie shaped the single-day WCA competition from the opening heats to the late afternoon finals across 15 total rounds.

The flagship Rubik's Cube event drew a massive lineup of 202 entrants across three rounds of intense action. Yiheng Wang claimed victory in 3x3x3 Cube, posting a world-class winning average of 4.36 seconds and a best single of 4.01. Ruihang Xu followed closely in second place with an average of 4.99 seconds, while Xuanyi Geng rounded out the podium in third with an average of 5.20. The final 3x3 results underscored the sharp level of preparation at the top of the bracket, delivering high-speed execution after a full day of head-to-head racing.

Beyond the main event, the Taizhou Open 2025 schedule offered a broad range of challenges that tested different skill sets. In 4x4x4 Cube, Ruihang Xu secured the top spot on the podium with a winning average of 22.03 seconds and an event-best single of 17.98 across two rounds of 118 competitors. Jieyu Yang earned second place with a mark of 24.29 seconds, and Chen Chen placed third at 25.70. Solving with a single hand brought its own tactical hurdles in 3x3x3 One-Handed, where Zhen Chen prevailed over 111 competitors with a winning average of 8.22 seconds, ahead of Ruihang Xu at 10.19 and Tao Wen at 10.29.

The side events and specialty puzzles added distinct flavor to the cubing competition schedule throughout the day. In Pyraminx, Lingkun Jiang took the title with a 2.07-second average and a blazing single of 0.95 across 79 competitors, finishing ahead of Tian Xia at 2.17 and Yening Liu at 2.22. Haoxuan Zhang claimed first place in Clock with a 3.39 average and a 2.83 single, leading Yening Liu at 3.60 and Haoxu Ye at 3.79. In 3x3x3 Blindfolded, where pure memorisation meets execution under the blindfold, Jieyu Yang won the field of 53 solvers with a best single time of 15.30 seconds, leading Yifan Wang at 18.16 and Haotian Shi at 21.60.

The 2x2x2 Cube event produced exceptionally tight margins among 130 competitors across two rounds. Tian Xia took the gold medal with a winning average of 1.31 seconds and a 1.12 single, narrowly edging Yiheng Wang who secured second place with an average of 1.32. Sendi Hu joined them on the podium in third place with a 1.58 average. The event saw a flurry of rapid attempts throughout the rounds, highlighting the precise, split-second nature of speed cubing on the smaller puzzle.

Away from the podium battles, the heart of the Taizhou Open 2025 lived in the individual breakthroughs recorded across all seven disciplines. Longlong Luo took on six separate events and achieved a major breakthrough in Pyraminx, clocking a personal best of 3.87 seconds to improve upon a prior mark of 6.14 by 37 percent, while also logging a first career Clock attempt of 16.69 and a first 3x3x3 One-Handed result of 19.34.
