Mean of Three Big Cubes Test Precision at Taipei Summer Open 2025English
The retail expanse of the Everrich Taipei Downtown Store in Neihu was transformed into an arena of intense focus over the weekend of June 28 to June 29, 2025. Across rows of official timing stations, a field of 236 competitors gathered to test their skills in Taipei, Taiwan. In the larger puzzle disciplines, the unforgiving mean-of-three format took center stage. Unlike standard events that discard a competitor's fastest and slowest efforts, big cube rounds offer no safety net, meaning a single mechanical lockup, missed alignment, or misplaced turn immediately ruins an entire average.
That razor-thin margin for error defined the upper reaches of the schedule across 12 events and 27 rounds. In the 6x6x6 Cube final, Wei-Ming Zeng executed three immaculate solves to capture first place with a winning average of 1:20.38, backed by a best single solve of 1:12.88. Ivan Li Ka Leong pressed close behind to secure second place with a 1:23.03 average, while Kai-Wen Wang took third on the podium at 1:24.78. Every turn required absolute composure, as any single counting mistake across the three attempts would have destroyed their podium hopes.
The 7x7x7 Cube presented an even steeper test of endurance and consistency over three uninterrupted solves. Chun-Pao Ni proved unmatched in navigating the massive layers, sealing the victory with a 2:03.38 average and a best single time of 1:56.34. Wei-Ming Zeng followed closely onto the podium in second place with a 2:05.28 mark, and Rui Yu earned third place by logging an average of 2:06.14. The results demonstrated the high level of execution demanded when every turn directly impacts the overall score at this WCA competition.
Beyond the grueling large-puzzle battles, the classic Rubik's Cube drew a massive lineup of 234 entrants through three intense rounds of speedcubing. Kai-Lun Cheng clinched the title with a swift 7.21 winning average and a standout single solve of 5.81. Ivan Li Ka Leong claimed the runner-up position with a 7.34 average, while Kai-Wen Wang took third place at 7.74. The official 3x3 results capped a fiercely contested main event, while Kai-Wen Wang also secured top honors in two other categories, winning 3x3x3 One-Handed in 10.64 and 5x5x5 Cube in 39.47.
Away from the top of the podium, several competitors made substantial strides in their personal development by taking on fresh challenges. You-Yi Fan took on 10 events during the weekend, achieving an 8th-place finish in Pyraminx, making a first career attempt in 6x6x6 Cube at 2:30.64, logging a first Clock try at 9.78, and delivering a personal best of 2.81 in Skewb that was 39.8 percent faster than their previous 4.67 mark. Chan-Yi Lin entered seven events, recording first-ever tournament attempts of 1:38.61 in the 4x4x4 Cube, 6.40 in Clock, and 13.32 in the standard 3x3x3 Cube.
Broadening their competitive repertoires even further, Wei-Zhong Wang entered eight events and established initial marks in three distinct puzzles, registering 10.37 in Pyraminx, 19.76 in 3x3x3 One-Handed, and 40.81 in Square-1. Chao-Yu Wang tackled six disciplines, posting first-ever results of 1:40.84 in 4x4x4 Cube, 11.82 in Pyraminx, and 4.06 in 2x2x2 Cube. Hao-Pin Hsu took on five events, logging first-time attempts of 10.25 in Skewb, 9.37 in Pyraminx, and 26.00 in 3x3x3 One-Handed, while Jing-Jia Chen entered five events, setting debut times of 6.93 in Pyraminx, 3.01 in 2x2x2 Cube, and 42.80 in 4x4x4 Cube.
The remaining podium battles showcased rapid execution across both classic and specialty twisty puzzles. Yen-An Chen collected a double victory during the cubing competition, winning the 2x2x2 Cube with a 1.58 average and taking the Square-1 crown with an average of 6.87. Ivan Li Ka Leong secured the 4x4x4 Cube title in 23.33, Bo-Yan Wu won Pyraminx with a 2.38 average, Cian-Jyun Yang took Skewb in 2.30, Pei-Ni Chiang topped Clock with a 4.05 mark, and Yi-Ho Hsueh captured Megaminx in 39.00.
Across two full days of high-stakes speed cubing, competitors from Taiwan earned 28 podium finishes, while entrants representing Hong Kong claimed 8 podium places. The Taipei Summer Open 2025 concluded as an exceptional showcase of technical skill and mental discipline in Neihu, demonstrating that whether racing through short sprints or grinding through unforgiving mean-of-three big cube rounds, precision under pressure remains the defining standard of the sport.
