Divyaansh Khatri Leads the Field at Surat Cubing Sprint 2024English

The Senior Citizen Community Hall was filled with steady focus and the rhythmic clicking of plastic turning mechanisms throughout July 21, 2024. Competitors adjusted their timers, examined scrambled puzzles under competition lighting, and prepared their opening turns across seven official categories. With 45 competitors gathered in Surat, Gujarat, India, the single-day schedule moved swiftly from preliminary heats into tense final rounds.

The 3x3x3 One-Handed event took centre stage by highlighting the demanding technical mastery required to control the puzzle using only five fingers. Solvers must execute complex algorithm rotations, manage smooth table grips, and maintain fluid finger-tricks without stabilizing the cube against their torso. Divyaansh Khatri captured top honors in the event, securing the gold medal with a winning average of 15.21 seconds and a best single time of 11.42 seconds. Moksh Patel followed closely behind with an average of 15.85, while Ojas Nimaje took third place on the podium with a 20.19 average.

Beyond his victory in single-handed solving, Divyaansh Khatri put together a dominant showing across multiple categories at Surat Cubing Sprint 2024. In the premier 3x3x3 Cube event, which drew 44 competitors across three rounds, Khatri earned another victory with an average of 7.98 seconds and a single of 7.64. The final 3x3 results saw Aditya Arunkumar finish in second place with an average of 9.10 seconds, while Ojas Nimaje claimed third place with a 10.98 mark.

The classic Rubik's Cube was not the only test of turning speed, as larger and smaller puzzles brought their own distinct challenges. Divyaansh Khatri added a third title to his tally in the 4x4x4 Cube, posting a winning average of 35.85 seconds with a sharp 30.90 single across two rounds. Rahul Venkatesan secured the runner-up position in the event with an average of 44.32 seconds, while Aditya Arunkumar finished third in 49.41 seconds.

Shorter formats tested rapid recognition and explosive starts throughout Surat Cubing Sprint 2024. In the 2x2x2 Cube, Vedant Kandoi took first place with a 2.54 winning average and a 2.34 single across two rounds of play, ahead of Ojas Nimaje with a 2.70 average and Divyaansh Khatri with a 3.02 average. The Pyraminx contest went to Dhairya Chiragbhai Dave, who posted a decisive winning average of 2.97 seconds, finishing ahead of Imaad Sohel Ajani at 3.78 and Aditya Arunkumar at 4.94. Moksh Patel clinched victory in Skewb with a 4.13 average, while Imaad Sohel Ajani topped the Clock field with an average of 7.33 seconds.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several speed cubing participants delivered landmark performances and marked massive strides in their personal records. Sushaan Patel took on six events and dropped his 2x2x2 personal best down to 2.44 seconds, an improvement of 51.6 percent over his previous 5.04 mark, while also recording his first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with a 49.86 single and finishing 5th in Skewb. Vivaan Manan Choksi entered three events, logging his first official 4x4x4 Cube solve in 1:02.67 and a first 2x2x2 solve in 3.81, while cutting his 3x3x3 personal best by 42.5 percent down to 14.90 seconds. Shivansh Siddharth Thakkar tackled five events, recording his first attempts at Skewb in 12.25 seconds and 4x4x4 in 1:49.80, alongside a 27.7 percent drop in his 2x2x2 personal best to 5.50 seconds. Vrushank Tejas Rathod competed in six events, registering first attempts at 4x4x4 in 1:36.60 and One-Handed in 42.54 seconds, as well as a 26.1 percent improvement on Skewb to 6.64.
