Specialist Solvers Gather at Sunday Silence Singapore 2024English

Inside the Cecil Building, the atmosphere carried a unique blend of intense focus and quiet camaraderie. Tables were arranged not for high-speed clatter, but for the deliberate, measured pacing of specialty disciplines. Pencils, paper, and blindfolds sat beside cubes as participants shared quiet discussions between attempts. The single-day gathering brought together 21 competitors in Singapore, Singapore on August 25, 2024, creating an environment where dedicated solvers could spend uninterrupted hours tackling complex challenges while catching up with longtime peers in the local community.

The focal point of Sunday Silence Singapore 2024 was its distinct schedule, featuring four specialized events across four rounds. Rather than standard speed rounds, the roster centered entirely on memorization and analytical planning. Enthusiasts of classic Rubik's Cube solving found their skills tested in fundamentally different ways. The shared experience of tackling mentally grueling events fostered an exceptionally supportive environment throughout the venue, making the day feel as much like a collective workshop as a high-stakes speedcubing meet.

In 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, Wong Chong Wen (黄崇文) delivered a standout performance to secure first place with a winning average of 22.33 and a best single of 22. Chang Hong Liang (张泓量) claimed second place with an average of 24.00, matching the best single of 22. Dylan Seah Tze Siang (谢智翔) took third on the podium with a 25.00 average and a single of 23. This strategic event attracted 13 competitors, serving as a masterclass in path efficiency and demonstrating the analytical depth that defines this style of cubing competition.

The long-form memorization events provided some of the day's most compelling moments. In 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, Yucheng Chen (陈裕铖) earned victory by successfully resolving 47 out of 63 cubes in a time of 1:00:02. Theodore Chan took the runner-up spot by solving 28 of 33 cubes in exactly 1:00:00, while Chu Yiu On (朱耀安) rounded out the podium with 24 of 29 in 57:11. Across 11 competitors, the event demanded absolute silence and immense discipline, rewarding those who could maintain concentration across dozens of individual puzzles.

Away from the top of the podium, several participants marked major milestones and steep personal improvements at Sunday Silence Singapore 2024. Jervis Yeo dropped his personal best in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves to 45, an improvement of 18.2 percent over his previous best of 55, while finishing 12th. Andrew Tan Jing Bang took 4th place in 5x5x5 Blindfolded with a personal best of 10:43.00, shaving 6.4 percent off his previous 11:27.00 mark across three events.
