Thailand Sweeps All 21 Podium Spots at Suankularb Open 2024English

Twenty-one podium positions were contested across seven events at Suankularb Open 2024, and every single one went to Thai competitors. Held over two days from April 6 to April 7 at Suankularb Wittayalai School in Bangkok, Thailand, the tournament gathered a field of 124 competitors. The host nation delivered a commanding showing from the first turns to the final round, locking out international challengers across every discipline on the schedule and reinforcing the remarkable strength of the regional scene in 2024.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew a large lineup of 118 solvers through three competitive rounds of speedcubing. Thada Phuenghua captured the title with a winning average of 7.21 seconds, backed by a best single of 6.31 seconds. Enoch Tangprasittipol secured second place with an average of 7.87 seconds, while Parist Pariyakanok rounded out the top three at 8.32 seconds. These standout 3x3 results capped a high-energy main event where consistency under pressure proved decisive on the final day.

Parist Pariyakanok enjoyed a particularly prolific weekend, securing two individual event victories alongside his 3x3x3 podium spot. In the 4x4x4 Cube, which featured 68 entrants, Pariyakanok took first place with an average of 26.81 seconds and a best single of 23.38 seconds, finishing ahead of Natthaphat Mahtani at 28.07 seconds and Asia Konvittayayotin at 29.38 seconds. Pariyakanok then added another gold in Pyraminx, outpacing 76 other solvers with a winning average of 3.82 seconds, followed by Wasu Modjang at 4.12 seconds and Itthikorn Wu at 4.55 seconds.

Natthaphat Mahtani matched that double-gold standard with masterful performances across the larger puzzles at Suankularb Open 2024. In the 5x5x5 Cube, Mahtani topped the 41-person roster with a 50.62-second winning average, narrowly holding off Asia Konvittayayotin who finished in 50.94 seconds, while Parist Pariyakanok took third in 54.87 seconds. Mahtani also controlled the Megaminx division from the outset, winning the event with an average of 38.74 seconds. Peerapat Pornkittipat followed in second with 45.10 seconds, and Thada Phuenghua claimed third with 48.79 seconds.

The specialty events generated equally fierce contests across the weekend schedule. Yanavut Jaipukdee took first place in Clock, completing three rounds against 57 other entrants to win with an average of 5.58 seconds, edging out Phasit Puengtang at 5.81 seconds and Yindee Wattanawong at 5.92 seconds. In Square-1, Anukun Supcharoenkun led the field of 34 competitors, capturing victory with a 9.46-second average and a single of 7.71 seconds, while Natthaphat Mahtani placed second at 12.47 seconds and Phakinthorn Pronmongkolsuk finished third at 12.76 seconds.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across the weekend. Bhagorn Tuntitawatchaikul registered a massive improvement in Pyraminx, setting a personal best of 5.38 seconds that was 61.6 percent faster than his previous mark of 14.02 seconds, alongside a 17.9 percent cut to his 3x3x3 Cube best at 21.08 seconds and a first career Clock solve of 28.35 seconds. Tasakorn Wayuparb also made major leaps, finishing fourth overall in Pyraminx with a new best of 2.79 seconds, which shaved 46.3 percent off his prior 5.20-second best, while also logging initial official attempts in the 3x3x3 Cube at 13.44 seconds and 4x4x4 Cube at 55.37 seconds.

The broadening ambitions of solvers remained a central theme throughout the gathering. Pattharadanai Jaiwongkum took on five events, improving his Square-1 personal best by 18.8 percent down to 22.07 seconds and posting initial marks of 5.45 seconds in Pyraminx and 49.99 seconds in the 4x4x4 Cube. Yotsavee Worapasphaiboon completed five events, claiming 13th in 4x4x4 Cube and logging first-time attempts in 5x5x5 Cube at 1:48.96, Pyraminx at 17.40 seconds, and Square-1 at 31.28 seconds. Wynn Tanatanyanon contested four events, setting debut results in Pyraminx at 11.67 seconds, 4x4x4 Cube at 1:14.77, and 5x5x5 Cube at 2:53.14, while international competitor Enyu Lu entered six events, logging first official times in Megaminx at 1:58.38, 5x5x5 Cube at 2:26.14, and Clock at 16.83 seconds.

With 16 total rounds resolved across seven events, this cubing competition served as a comprehensive showcase of modern speed cubing talent. The classic Rubik's Cube drew deep participation, but the balance of side events highlighted the technical depth of the regional community. The smooth coordination across all brackets delivered an action-packed atmosphere for experienced hands and newcomers alike.

As the final timers were cleared at Suankularb Wittayalai School, Suankularb Open 2024 left a definitive mark on the local calendar. A complete sweep of all 21 podium places by Thai competitors reflected the formidable preparation within the host country. With benchmarks lowered and skill sets broadened across the community, participants now look forward to testing their progress in the next season of WCA competition.
