Sollentuna Speedcubing Climax: Daniel Wallin and Leo Lindqvist Dominate at SatellitenEnglish
Inside Arena Satelliten, the steady clatter of rotating layers and the click of stopwatches set the rhythm for a full day of puzzle action. Solvers from across the region gathered under the bright hall lights, inspecting scrambles and warming up their fingers before stepping up to the official timing mats. The atmosphere carried the distinct energy of a decisive tournament, with 35 competitors lining up across 17 different disciplines. As judges held clipboards and scorecards ready, the stage was set for a memorable showcase of high-velocity problem solving at Stockholmsligan Final 2023.
The spotlight shone brightest on the lightning-quick short puzzles, where the classic Rubik's Cube brought the field to life. Daniel Wallin delivered an exceptional performance in the main event, posting a 7.02 single and securing top honours with an average of 8.40 across two hard-fought rounds. His consistency at the table highlighted the quality of the 3x3 results, giving the premier bracket a commanding standard that stood unchallenged through the final round of 28 solvers.
The 2x2x2 Cube proved equally blistering, delivering the fastest averages of the entire meet. Leo Lindqvist produced an electric sequence of solves to claim the title, finishing with an average of 2.18 and a best single of 2.12 among a competitive pack of 23 entrants. That rapid pace set the tone for an explosive day of speedcubing in Sollentuna, Sweden, where pure finger speed and immediate pattern recognition separated the frontrunners in the opening brackets of this WCA competition.
Away from the top steps of the podium, several solvers seized the opportunity to record dramatic personal milestones. Shreyansh Das entered four events and registered a major breakthrough in Skewb, cutting his personal best by 52.6 percent down to 9.05 from 19.09, while also improving his 3x3x3 mark to 24.86, an improvement of 22.5 percent, and taking eighth place in Skewb. Alexander Olausson took on five disciplines, slashing his Pyraminx best by 48.3 percent to 6.53 from 12.63, dropping his 2x2x2 best by 43.3 percent to 4.36, and completing his first official attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 2:22.87 on his way to ninth in Skewb. Aron Airaksinen entered five events, cutting his 4x4x4 best by 44.3 percent to 59.60 from 1:46.92 to place fifth, while logging his first official attempts in Clock at 20.78 and 5x5x5 Cube at 2:11.34.
Other dedicated solvers also expanded their tournament repertoires across a demanding schedule. Tom Denize tackled three events, completing his first career tries in 4x4x4 Cube with a time of 1:29.56 to finish eighth and 2x2x2 Cube with a 5.91, alongside a 15.6 percent cut to his 3x3x3 Cube best at 17.54. Mia Karlsson contested five categories, earning a best finish of fifth place in 3x3x3 One-Handed while registering first-time official results in Square-1 at 48.17 and Clock at 22.98. Vincent Fredriksson completed three events, making his first attempt at Pyraminx with a mark of 16.51 for 15th place and lowering his 2x2x2 Cube personal record by 20.3 percent to 15.71, adding depth to the proceedings at Stockholmsligan Final 2023.
Beyond the sprint formats, the competition traversed a massive spectrum of twisty puzzles throughout June 21, 2023. Vincent Rylander swept both Square-1 with an average of 11.34 and the 4x4x4 Cube with a mark of 42.21, edging out deep fields in both formats. Joel Lundström captured twin victories in the big-puzzle categories, securing the Megaminx title in 46.92 ahead of Love Rindsjö and Emil Elghorn, before controlling the 5x5x5 Cube event with a winning mark of 1:02.59. In the largest machinery of the day, Alvar Nylén prevailed in both 6x6x6 Cube with a 1:43.49 mean and 7x7x7 Cube in 2:42.84.
Side events brought further variety to this cubing competition, testing specialised handling and pure puzzle mechanics. Daniel Wallin added another trophy to his tally by winning Clock in 5.95, closely pursued by Samuel Eklund-Hanna at 6.05 and Emil Elghorn at 6.32. Samuel Eklund-Hanna rebounded to take the Skewb crown with a 5.08 average, while Thomas Mæhle Schmidt topped the Pyraminx standings on an average of 5.30. In the single-handed arena, Anders Berggren guided his way to the 3x3x3 One-Handed gold with an average of 16.84, demonstrating the versatile skill required across different solving styles during Stockholmsligan Final 2023.
The intellectual challenges of the schedule pushed competitor focus to its limits in the blindfolded and analytical disciplines. Daniel Wallin completed a comprehensive mastery of memory solving, taking first place in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a single of 19.18, 4x4x4 Blindfolded in 1:56.10, and 5x5x5 Blindfolded in 4:49.68. Tim Staberg earned top honours in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind by resolving 2 of 4 cubes within 31:29, while Erik Jernqvist demonstrated pure efficiency by winning 3x3x3 Fewest Moves with a 28.33 average.
By the time the final awards were distributed at Arena Satelliten, Swedish solvers had secured 42 podium positions alongside two podium finishes for Denmark across the 18 total rounds. The single-day tournament demonstrated the health and breadth of local speed cubing, uniting veteran champions and emerging talents across all 17 WCA events. With trophies claimed and dozens of new personal benchmarks written into the books, Stockholmsligan Final 2023 delivered a fitting conclusion to a vibrant season of competition.
