Diverse Five-Event Programme Highlights Stockholmsligan 10: The Villans - 2023 in TumbaEnglish

Twenty-five competitors assembled on June 8, 2023, tackling an eclectic single-day schedule that tested every facet of twisty puzzle solving. Stockholmsligan 10: The Villans - 2023 brought speedcubing talent to Tumba Gymnasium in Tumba, Sweden, presenting a tight slate of five distinct events across five total rounds. The selection ranged from the blistering turns of the 2x2x2 Cube to the massive endurance demanded by the 7x7x7 Cube, alongside the geometric shifts of Square-1 and the mental discipline of blindfolded solving.

The range of events rewarded versatility, and Daniel Wallin proved ready for the broad spectrum of challenges. Wallin captured three separate victories throughout the competition, asserting control over vastly different formats. In the 3x3x3 Cube, the traditional Rubik's Cube standard, Wallin posted a winning average of 9.08 seconds to lead a 24-competitor field, bolstered by a best single solve of 6.59 seconds. Leo Lindqvist secured the runner-up spot with an average of 10.29 seconds, while Vincent Rylander completed the top three with an average of 11.20 seconds in the official 3x3 results.

Wallin doubled his tally at the opposite end of the size spectrum on the massive 7x7x7 Cube. Navigating the hundreds of moving pieces in the single round of nine solvers, Wallin registered a winning average of 3:16.59 and the best single time of the event at 3:11.64. Vincent Rylander took second place with a 4:12.79 average, followed by Leo Lindqvist in third at 4:24.50. The event served as a stark contrast to the shorter puzzles, demanding minutes of continuous turning and pattern recognition.

The discipline of 3x3x3 Blindfolded introduced a purely cognitive test to the schedule, requiring competitors to memorise the cube state before donning a blindfold to complete the solve. Wallin claimed his third gold of the day with a swift single of 27.20 seconds, the only sub-minute effort of the round. Tom Lundborg earned second place with a time of 1:19.68, while Leo Lindqvist collected another top finish by securing third place in 1:54.44 out of eight participating solvers.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several solvers delivered standout personal milestones across the varied schedule. Carlos Wang entered three events and generated a major breakthrough in Square-1, cutting his personal best down to 23.83 seconds from 35.75, an improvement of 33.3 percent, on his way to a seventh-place finish. Arnav Sharma made substantial gains on the 2x2x2 Cube across his two events, lowering his personal best by 27.7 percent from 5.64 seconds to 4.08 seconds to finish 14th. Helmer Forsgren took on two events and dropped his 3x3x3 Cube personal best from 15.26 seconds to 11.62 seconds, a 23.9 percent improvement, while finishing 11th in 2x2x2.

The progress continued across different disciplines as Kacper Terlecki entered two events and sliced his 3x3x3 Cube single from 26.75 seconds to 20.95 seconds, a 21.7 percent reduction, to place 20th. Elias Liverhall improved his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 10.2 percent, going from 14.56 seconds to 13.08 seconds while finishing 16th overall. Love Liverhall focused entirely on the 2x2x2 Cube, trimming his personal best from 12.00 seconds to 11.27 seconds to finish 22nd. Ludvig Söderström tackled three disciplines, achieving a personal best of 11.94 seconds in 3x3x3 Cube, 5.4 percent faster than his prior 12.62, and made his first ever attempt at 7x7x7 Cube, posting an eighth-place time of 7:46.53.

The specialised mechanics of Square-1 provided another dimension of variety, requiring solvers to manage shape-shifting moves alongside colour alignment. Vincent Rylander captured the title with a winning average of 11.00 seconds and a round-best single solve of 9.35 seconds among eight competitors. Daniel Wallin secured second place with an average of 13.33 seconds, while Leo Lindqvist added another podium result by finishing third with a 16.83 average in the single-round contest.

Sprinters had their moment in the 2x2x2 Cube, where rapid execution dictated the outcome among 24 entrants. Leo Lindqvist took the top step with a winning average of 1.94 seconds and a best single solve of 1.62 seconds. Timothy Edegran Gren followed closely in second place with an average of 2.72 seconds, edging Daniel Wallin, who placed third in 2.75 seconds.
