Records Fall in Stenay as Victor Colin Wins 3x3x3 CrownEnglish

Inside the MFR venue in Stenay, France, stacks of timers and mats stood ready across long competition tables as fifty-one competitors gathered for a packed weekend of speedcubing. Over two days from January 31 to February 1, 2026, the quiet focus of competition gave way to the rhythmic clatter of plastic and the steady thud of hands stopping clocks across ten distinct events and twenty rounds of action.

The 2026 meeting at Stenay Que le Début 2026 proved to be an exceptional showcase of speed and precision, particularly in the headline Rubik's Cube category. A series of rapid single and average marks fell throughout the 3x3x3 Cube contest, setting a blazing standard for the weekend. Across three demanding rounds featuring forty-six competitors, the level of execution remained remarkably high from the opening scrambles right through to the final round.

Victor Colin topped the final 3x3 results with an outstanding 7.77 winning average, anchored by a best single solve of 7.26 in the decisive round. Colin had previously laid down a 6.49 single and a 7.98 average during the competition, leading a French podium sweep. Jules Créteur secured second place with an 8.72 average after notching a 7.05 single, while Charles Daloz-Baltenberger claimed third with a 9.00 average, having also posted a 7.07 single and an 8.65 average earlier in the weekend.

Beyond the main event, Stenay Que le Début 2026 delivered heavy performances across the larger cubes, where Peter Grassard assembled a dominant three-event sweep. Grassard won the 5x5x5 Cube with a 53.93 average, the 6x6x6 Cube in 1:35.02, and the 7x7x7 Cube with an average of 2:15.04. Abdelhak Kaddour claimed victory in the 4x4x4 Cube with a 29.71 average, while also taking second place behind Grassard in both the 5x5x5 and 6x6x6 events before earning third on the 7x7x7 podium.

The blindfolded events at this WCA competition were controlled by Charles Daloz-Baltenberger, who delivered two masterclasses in non-visual solving. Daloz-Baltenberger captured the 3x3x3 Blindfolded title with a single solve of 13.22 seconds, finishing ahead of Germany's Jens Haber at 17.00 seconds and France's Étienne Aubry at 46.98 seconds. Daloz-Baltenberger followed that up by winning the 3x3x3 Multi-Blind event, successfully solving nineteen out of twenty-three cubes in 55:23, while Aubry achieved a flawless fifteen for fifteen in 56:36 for second.

Away from the championship hardware, the depth of this cubing competition was visible in the huge individual leaps made throughout the field. Théo Meyer-Dumoulin entered five events and trimmed his Square-1 personal best to 36.60 seconds, which was 44.2 percent faster than his previous mark of 1:05.57. Philippe Mangen took on eight events and logged a Megaminx personal best of 1:29.88, a 40.8 percent improvement, alongside a 26.35 Square-1 best that was 34.3 percent faster and a 10th-place finish. Marcus Apostol entered three events and saw his Square-1 personal best drop by 36.8 percent down to 23.71 seconds.

Nathan Saugnon--Clément competed in six events, recording his first ever attempt at Megaminx with a time of 2:17.84, while also finishing seventh in Skewb with a personal best of 3.74 seconds, 26.7 percent faster than before. Thomas Lao took on seven events, making first attempts at Square-1 with 43.79 seconds and Megaminx with 2:06.87, while improving his 5x5x5 Cube mark by 13.5 percent to 2:55.34.

The side events brought further variety to the speed cubing schedule as Victoria Géonet of Belgium took first place in Megaminx with an average of 47.23, holding off fellow Belgian Justin Vinckenbosch who finished in 48.85. In Skewb, Maxence Baudry captured top honours with a 3.69 average and a lightning single of 1.18 seconds, while Paul Luciw took the Square-1 title with a 9.18 average. By the end of the weekend, French competitors had collected twenty-seven podium places, alongside two for Belgium and one for Germany.

As the tables were cleared and the timers packed away at the MFR venue, Stenay Que le Début 2026 concluded with fifty-one competitors having pushed their personal limits across twenty rounds of high-pressure solving. From the rapid-fire 3x3x3 finals to the marathon concentration of big cubes and blindfolded disciplines, the competition highlighted the incredible breadth of talent across the region heading into the rest of the 2026 season.
