Garrett and Redisi Excel Across a High-Stakes Weekend at Southern Indiana Qualifier 2025English

The competition tables at the Habig Community Center stayed active from the opening morning through the final solves of the weekend. Across two full days on March 29 and March 30, a dedicated gathering of 53 competitors filled the hall in Jasper, Indiana, USA for Southern Indiana Qualifier 2025. With 17 distinct events packed across just 18 total rounds, the schedule relied on straightforward, high-pressure single-round battles for almost the entire program, leaving no safety net for mistakes.

That compressed structure placed an intense premium on getting things right on the first and only try. In sixteen events, competitors stepped up knowing their initial five solves or single attempts would determine the final standings. Only the main Rubik's Cube bracket offered the luxury of a second round, turning every other event in this cubing competition into a sudden showdown where consistency under pressure was paramount.

The 3x3 results delivered a dramatic finish in the only multi-round event of the weekend. Dominic Redisi captured the title in the 3x3x3 Cube final, posting a winning average of 7.05 seconds along with a best single of 6.29. Luke Garrett pushed the pace all the way to the end, securing second place with a 7.10 average, while Brian Johnson took third with an average of 7.20. Redisi also claimed victory in Skewb, putting together a winning average of 1.61 to edge Carter Kucala at 1.86.

Garrett put on a masterclass throughout the weekend, securing victories across a vast spectrum of puzzles. In the 2x2x2 Cube, Garrett won with a 1.42 average, followed by Kucala at 1.53 and Jack Pfeifer at 1.67. Garrett also earned top honors in 4x4x4 Cube with an average of 25.38 ahead of Redisi and Pfeifer, while capturing 5x5x5 Cube with a 49.88 average and Clock with an average of 4.21. In the blindfolded categories, Garrett added wins in 4x4x4 Blindfolded with a 4:28.11 single and 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, securing 15 out of 20 cubes in 58:27.

Big cubes and side disciplines brought even more variety to the stage. Jack Pfeifer completed a double sweep in the largest puzzles, taking the 6x6x6 Cube with a winning average of 1:28.20 and the 7x7x7 Cube with a mark of 1:58.60. In 3x3x3 One-Handed, Eli Parker took first place with a 9.58 average over Garrett at 9.84. Harsha Paladugu won Pyraminx with a 2.20 average, Zeke Mackay topped Megaminx in 33.59, Brian Johnson secured Square-1 in 6.16, and Evan Brown solved 3x3x3 Fewest Moves in a winning 21.00 moves.

Beyond the top podium steps, this WCA competition revealed massive leaps forward across the wider roster. Andrew Hisey tackled 14 events over the weekend, setting a major Square-1 personal best of 22.99 that was 49.4 percent faster than his previous mark of 45.39, while also taking his first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Fewest Moves with a count of 52. Elijah Mudd logged a huge 53.7 percent improvement in 2x2x2 Cube with a new personal best of 4.14 and posted a first ever attempt of 9.24 in Pyraminx. Benjamin Stump improved his 3x3x3 Cube best to 14.90, cutting 38.9 percent from his prior mark, and completed his first ever attempt in 5x5x5 Cube in 3:08.93. Linus Wilson cut 36.1 percent from his 3x3x3 Cube time to reach 29.51 and tried Pyraminx for the first time.

Fresh milestones kept emerging as athletes expanded their repertoires into new puzzles. Carson Kurtz took on 12 events, including a first attempt at 3x3x3 Fewest Moves with 37 moves and a Megaminx personal best of 1:08.15 that sliced 25.8 percent off his record. Knox Chambers entered 7 events, trimming his 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 44.7 percent to 1.20 and making his first Megaminx attempt in 1:11.68. Making their full speedcubing debuts, Lafe Hain tackled seven events including a 12.88 on 3x3x3 Cube, while Crosby Braun took on four events, setting an initial mark of 19.85 in 3x3x3 Cube and 5.19 in 2x2x2 Cube.

The blindfolded events tested memory and poise in Jasper, with Carter Kucala winning 3x3x3 Blindfolded on a 22.68 single and Simon Kellum taking 5x5x5 Blindfolded with a 22:47.00 single.
