South Deerfield Side Events 2023 packed 13 rounds of play across six official disciplines into a single high-tempo Saturday. Competitors traveled to South Deerfield, Massachusetts, USA, focusing heavily on specialty puzzles alongside the classic 3x3x3 Cube. With a full lineup of brackets running throughout the day, the single-day gathering tested versatility and stamina from the opening scrambles to the final podium presentations.

The morning began with large qualifying stages and specialty brackets that quickly established the tone for the competition. Kyle Meade took command of the side disciplines early, delivering a blistering 1.70 winning average in Pyraminx to lead three full rounds of that event. Meade also set the benchmark in Skewb across two rounds, securing the title with a 3.68 average. His momentum carried straight into Clock, where he posted an event-winning 4.07 average to capture his third individual title of the day, finishing ahead of Zachary Miller who secured second place with 7.49.

Big cubes and geometric challenges highlighted the midday rotation at South Deerfield Side Events 2023. Evan Liu conquered the 6x6x6 Cube final, taking top honors with a 1:46.18 average and the fastest single solve of the event at 1:35.88. Kyle Meade placed second in the big cube event with a 2:02.97 mark, followed by Will Russo in third with 2:11.00. Meanwhile, the three-round Square-1 bracket saw Elijah Rain Phelps put on an exceptional clinic, logging an 8.00 winning average and a single of 6.79 to finish clear of runner-up Levi Gibson at 10.29 and third-place Tommy Szeliga at 10.62.

As the afternoon progressed, the main event drew the full focus of the room. The traditional Rubik's Cube featured 50 competitors battling through two intense rounds. Elijah Rain Phelps maintained exceptional form to win the 3x3x3 Cube with a final average of 7.65, edging out Krish Shah-Nathwani who finished second with an 8.09 average. Dylan Chan claimed the third spot on the podium with an 8.48 mark. In the 3x3 results, Krish Shah-Nathwani delivered a 6.35 single and a 7.09 average, while Phelps produced the fastest single solve of the entire bracket at 5.49.

Brando Fusco entered six events and delivered a massive Skewb personal best of 5.60 seconds, which was 72.5 percent faster than his prior best, alongside his first ever attempts in Square-1 at 1:02.08 and Clock at 10.68. Asher Jiang tackled three events and dropped his 3x3x3 Cube personal best by 31.3 percent to 20.46 while registering his first official attempts at Skewb and Pyraminx. Andrew Huang cut his Pyraminx personal best by 31.4 percent down to 9.61 and completed his first Square-1 solve in 1:12.15.

The depth of progress continued across the field as Noah Devaux lowered his 3x3x3 Cube personal best by 29 percent to 32.88 and improved his Pyraminx mark to 10.68. Jonathan Scannell achieved an 18th-place finish in 6x6x6 Cube with a first-time mark of 5:09.17 and improved his Skewb best by 26.8 percent to 9.79. Huy Thai took on six disciplines, recording his first official marks in Clock, Pyraminx, and a 17th-place 4:47.20 in 6x6x6 Cube. First-time speed cubing entrants also made their mark, with Connor Farrell recording first attempts in Clock, Pyraminx, and Skewb, while Sang Huu Tong logged first-ever attempts across three separate puzzles.

By the closing heats of South Deerfield Side Events 2023, the event showed how competitive regional side events have become on the tournament circuit. Across all six events, United States competitors swept all 18 podium positions available.
