Ivaylo Ivaylov Vichev Commands the Tables at Sofia Spring 2024English

Inside the NSA Dining facility at the Student campus in Sofia, Bulgaria, the steady click of plastic and the hum of focused concentration filled the hall across March 16 and March 17. Tables were packed with timers, mats, and puzzles of every geometry as eighty-six competitors assembled for a full slate of speedcubing. The atmosphere throughout the twenty scheduled rounds was sharp and purposeful, setting the stage for two days of rigorous competition across eleven distinct official events.

Veteran solver Ivaylo Ivaylov Vichev delivered a masterclass across multiple categories, reminding the community of his enduring consistency and speed. In the premier 3x3x3 Cube event, Vichev secured first place with an imposing winning average of 7.97 seconds, backed by a best single of 7.52 seconds across three competitive rounds. He held off strong challenges in the finals from Ivaylo Tanev, who took second place with an average of 8.56 seconds, and Alexander Tenev, who claimed third with a mark of 9.28 seconds. The classic 3x3 results confirmed Vichev at the top of the field.

Beyond the standard Rubik's Cube, Vichev swept three of the larger twisty puzzles to cap an extraordinary individual weekend. He captured the 4x4x4 Cube title with a winning average of 35.24 seconds, finishing ahead of Kaloyan Galabinov at 38.18 seconds and Ognian Baruh at 41.68 seconds. Moving up to the 5x5x5 Cube, Vichev again finished on top with a mark of 1:05.76, while Tenev took second at 1:15.41 and Galabinov earned third at 1:15.67. In the massive 7x7x7 Cube, Vichev prevailed with an average of 3:08.41, besting Galabinov at 3:20.99 and Emil Todorov Iliev at 3:42.89.

Kaloyan Galabinov managed to interrupt Vichev's big-cube dominance by taking the 6x6x6 Cube title in a tight battle. Galabinov posted a winning average of 2:10.13, narrowly edging out Vichev, who took second place with a mark of 2:11.94, while Alexander Tenev finished third at 2:40.21. Tenev had his own moments at the top of the podium, capturing both the 3x3x3 One-Handed event with a 12.79 average and the single-round Square-1 contest with an average of 14.73 seconds.

In the shorter formats, Ilian Bashev seized victory in the fast-paced 2x2x2 Cube, delivering a winning average of 3.22 seconds to lead a podium that featured Roman Sokolovskyi of Ukraine in second at 3.69 seconds and Yinghao Zhu of China in third at 3.72 seconds. The Pyraminx event went to Aleksandar Dimitrov, who notched a 3.62 winning average over fifty-three other competitors.
