Sides Bahia - Poções Quest 2023

Inside Academia Bergues Sport Club, tables stood ready for an intensive day of puzzle solving across multiple demanding categories. The single-day tournament brought official World Cube Association action directly to the municipality, drawing competitors into focused, direct matchups. With every single competitor contending in decisive, single-round shootouts, each solve carried immediate significance. The focused gathering tested stamina and precision across large-cube hardware and complex side events without the safety net of preliminary stages.

The tournament calendar brought Sides Bahia - Poções Quest 2023 to Poções, Bahia, Brazil, on September 24, 2023. As a specialized cubing competition, the meet focused heavily on non-traditional events rather than the standard three-layered puzzle. While fans often look for typical 3x3 results, this program emphasized big cubes, the dodecahedral Megaminx, and blindfolded memory challenges. With a compact roster of 3 competitors, every participant found themselves contending directly for podium spots in high-stakes, single-round formats.

João Vinícius Santos emerged as the dominant force across the larger Rubik's Cube variants throughout the day. In the 4x4x4 Cube event, which featured the full three-person field, Santos secured first place with an impressive winning average of 43.21 seconds. Santos claimed his third gold of the day, delivering a winning average of 2:12.37 alongside a sharp single of 2:01.81. Bergue took second place on the podium by recording a 2:53.17 average, bolstered by a best single solve of 2:39.03. Managing the immense mechanical demand of the six-layer puzzle required great composure during these decisive attempts.

The massive 7x7x7 Cube contest rounded out the big-cube roster at Sides Bahia - Poções Quest 2023. Santos proved unstoppable once again, logging a winning average of 3:29.08 and an event-best single time of 3:13.32. The endurance required for the 7x7x7 division highlighted the high physical demand of modern speedcubing at the highest levels.

The Megaminx event delivered the most thrilling finish of the meet, breaking the streak of big-cube sweeps. Gabriel Bergue turned in a stellar performance on the twelve-faced puzzle, earning the title with a winning average of 1:03.17 and a best single mark of 1:02.28. Santos followed closely behind, registering a solid average of 1:07.40 to take the runner-up spot. The rapid turns and pattern recognition on the dodecahedron showcased elite speed cubing technique.

The tournament also featured the intense discipline of 3x3x3 Blindfolded, where memory and execution collide without visual aid during the solve. João Vinícius Santos took on the event alone, successfully completing a solve in 3:11.75 to capture first place on best single. Although his overall average resulted in a DNF, the successful single solve closed out his remarkable haul of five tournament titles across six contested events.

With a total of 12 podium positions earned exclusively by competitors representing Brazil, the gathering concluded as an intense exhibition of niche speed solving disciplines. Every participant contributed to a competitive atmosphere that demanded total focus from the opening 4x4x4 rounds to the final blindfolded attempt.
