Fine Margins and Big Puzzles Define Seomara Cube Fest 2025English

Seventeen competitors stepped up to tackle the 6x6x6 Cube at Seomara Cube Fest 2025, where the brutal discipline of the mean of three format leaves no room for error. Unlike the standard average of five format that discards the best and worst attempts, three-solve rounds count every single run toward the final tally. In a format where a single lockup, pop, or misaligned turn permanently ruins the average, the margin between victory and second place came down to a razor-thin twelve hundredths of a second across more than five minutes of total turning.

That dramatic showdown at ES Seomara da Costa Primo in Amadora, Lisboa, Portugal, saw Tomás Freire capture the 6x6x6 Cube title on April 26 to April 27, 2025. Freire assembled a winning mean of 1:46.41 alongside a best single of 1:41.15. Tiago Morais chased him relentlessly through the two rounds of big cube action, recording a 1:46.53 mean to claim the silver medal, while Vasco Vasconcelos took third with a 2:05.51 mean. The tension of the format proved once again why long-form speedcubing rounds punish inconsistency so severely.

Morais found redemption across other demanding events during the weekend. In the 5x5x5 Cube, where thirty entrants took the stage, Morais secured the championship title with a 56.20 average and a quick 50.33 single, keeping Freire in second place at 58.13 and Vasconcelos in third at 1:10.85. Morais also demonstrated immense concentration in 4x4x4 Blindfolded, an event requiring memorisation and execution without sight, claiming victory among eight competitors with a winning single solve of 5:22.26 ahead of Pedro Azevedo at 7:30.06 and Vasconcelos at 7:57.57.

Across seven official events and sixteen rounds, the cubing competition drew fifty-one competitors to the venue. In the classic Rubik's Cube category, Afonso Cláudio Machado took top honors from a field of fifty solvers. Machado posted a decisive 8.12 winning average and a best single of 7.71 to lead the 3x3 results across three competitive rounds. Freire added to his impressive medal tally with second place on an 8.48 average, while Canadian competitor Jensen Belen-Brown earned third with an 8.66 average.

Belen-Brown excelled across several formats, winning the Pyraminx title out of forty-four competitors with a 4.75 average and a 3.96 single. Gabriel Dias Barahona Fernandes took second with a 5.12 average, and Diogo Miguel Alves Guerreiro placed third on 5.27. In Square-1, Guerreiro topped twenty-six solvers with a 12.20 average and a 7.65 single, beating Belen-Brown at 14.94 and Morais at 18.63. The 3x3x3 One-Handed event belonged to Xingyu Zhu (朱星宇), who won with a 13.89 average, followed by Belen-Brown at 16.03 and Machado at 17.06. Across all podiums, Portugal earned sixteen places, Canada four, and China one.

Away from the top steps of the podium, Seomara Cube Fest 2025 showcased tremendous personal milestones that reflect the depth of the community. Ivo de Carvalho Nogueira entered five events and recorded a massive breakthrough, lowering his 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best to 15.60, which was 74.3 percent faster than his prior 1:00.67 mark, while setting a Square-1 best of 28.64, logging his first ever 5x5x5 Cube attempt at 2:19.98, and earning a 15th-place finish in one-handed. Miguel Cabrita tackled four events, cutting his Pyraminx best by 41.8 percent down to 5.17 while making his first ever attempts at 5x5x5 Cube in 4:17.23 and Square-1 in 1:19.16. Miguel Picado completed five events, achieving a 34.6 percent improvement in 3x3x3 One-Handed at 31.26, dropping his Pyraminx mark to 5.24, and recording a first 5x5x5 Cube attempt of 2:22.97.

Other competitors similarly expanded their repertoires and set sharp personal bests throughout the speed cubing schedule. Tomé Rebelo da Costa Gaspar Andrade competed in three events, delivering a first ever 3x3x3 One-Handed attempt of 1:10.85, a Pyraminx best of 5.11, and a 19.58 single on the 3x3x3 Cube, which improved on his prior mark by 19.3 percent. Konstantin Ebner entered two events, logging a first ever Pyraminx solve of 12.94 and improving his 3x3x3 Cube best by 19.8 percent to 31.72. António Ferro de Beça Carmona Rodrigues took on two events, setting a first Pyraminx mark of 11.75 and an 18.21 single on the 3x3x3 Cube. João Tiago Capelo Nogueira entered four events, posting a first 5x5x5 Cube solve of 2:27.59 alongside bests of 28.87 in Square-1 and 16.42 in the 3x3x3 Cube. Martim Santos Azevedo rounded out four events with a first Square-1 attempt of 1:34.52 and a 47.88 personal best in one-handed.

The WCA competition concluded as a celebrated success for the region, highlighting elite consistency under unforgiving rules and deep personal progress across the roster. From the tense margins of big-cube mean formats to the broad variety of side events, Seomara Cube Fest 2025 brought high drama to Amadora and set a strong standard for the season ahead.
