Competition recap
A written summary of Semums Cubing 2024, generated from the official results on this page.
Mean-of-Three Drama and Multievent Mastery Mark Semums Cubing 2024English
When solving larger puzzles under tournament pressure, the margin between triumph and heartbreak is razor-thin, as mean-of-three events offer zero room to hide a single mistake. In the 6x6x6 Cube final at Semums Cubing 2024, Ilia Rashidi mastered that exact discipline, putting together a commanding 2:59.23 winning average with a best single of 2:53.50. Rashidi stood as the only competitor in the seven-person field to dip under the three-minute threshold across every attempt, while Amirreza Yaseri secured second place at 3:57.74 and Farid Fakhrian took third place with 4:01.23.
Held across April 18 and April 19, 2024, the gathering brought together 84 competitors at the Campus of Semnan University of Medical Sciences in Semnan, Iran. Across 18 rounds and 12 official events, the cubing competition delivered intense races across standard Rubik's Cube categories and specialised formats alike. In events where every single solve counts directly toward the final average without the luxury of dropping a worst attempt, consistency was tested to its absolute limit across both days of action.
That unforgiving demand was equally visible in the 7x7x7 Cube final, where Amirreza Yaseri captured the title with a composed winning average of 3:20.28, powered by a round-best single of 3:13.54. Meanwhile, the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves challenge demanded precision of a purely mental nature, where Mohammad Mahdi Khosravi claimed the top spot with a single of 28 moves. Khosravi finished ahead of Seyed Amirparsa Hosseini Nayeri, who logged 33 moves, and Iliya Foroughi, who secured third on the podium with 35 moves.
The traditional main event saw electric 3x3 results throughout three rounds of intense speedcubing. Erfan Dehghani took the 3x3x3 Cube title with a fine 8.19 winning average, edging Mohammadreza Abbaszadeh who posted 8.24 in second place, and Mohammad Soroush Hoseini in third at 8.68. Dehghani also registered the weekend's best 3x3 single at 6.56. In 2x2x2 Cube action, Dehghani completed a double victory by capturing first place with a 2.37 average, holding off Saman Parvizi at 2.43 and Iliya Foroughi at 2.63.
Beyond the podium battles, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones away from the top steps. Mehrad Mohemsaz delivered a massive performance drop in the 2x2x2 Cube, logging a personal best of 4.19 to finish 72.3 percent faster than his previous mark of 15.12, while also lowering his 3x3x3 Cube best to 18.47 and his 4x4x4 Cube mark to 2:13.92. Mohammad Hasan Movahedi made huge strides across three events, cutting his Pyraminx best down to 4.48 from 10.38 for a 56.8 percent improvement, alongside a 15.63 in 3x3x3 Cube that was 41.2 percent faster, and a 3.61 in 2x2x2 Cube. Ryan Yousefian took down his Pyraminx best to 6.59, an improvement of 53.5 percent over his earlier 14.18 mark, while shaving his 3x3x3 best to 15.71.
The spirit of testing new disciplines was everywhere across the venue floor. Kiarash Mahdizadeh tackled 11 different events across the weekend, earning a career-best fourth place finish in 6x6x6 Cube while recording official first attempts in Clock at 19.90, 7x7x7 Cube at 6:29.36, and Fewest Moves with a 39. Amirali Hassanshahi took on five events and posted his best finish of sixth place in 4x4x4 Cube, setting initial marks of 3.81 in 2x2x2 Cube, 42.19 in 4x4x4 Cube, and 19.09 in 3x3x3 One-Handed. Bardia Javadi registered debut attempts in 4x4x4 Cube at 1:15.59, One-Handed at 28.17, and Pyraminx at 7.55. Ali Ghorbani notched a 2x2x2 debut of 8.94 and dropped his 3x3x3 best by 30.8 percent to 28.40, while Seyed Hamoon Nabavi made his 2x2x2 debut in 7.28 and dropped his 3x3x3 record by 33.4 percent to 17.40.
Multievent specialist Seyed Amirparsa Hosseini Nayeri mounted an exceptional campaign across mid-sized and side events at Semums Cubing 2024. Hosseini Nayeri clinched the 4x4x4 Cube crown with an average of 35.35 over Mohammadreza Abbaszadeh at 42.90, took the 5x5x5 Cube gold in 1:14.45 ahead of Alireza Khazaei at 1:19.91, and secured the Megaminx victory with an average of 1:07.13. His versatility across diverse puzzle geometries proved to be one of the signature storylines of the Semnan meet.
In other disciplines, Mohammadreza Abbaszadeh struck gold in 3x3x3 One-Handed, recording a 14.01 average to overcome Erfan Dehghani at 14.14 and Mohammad Yahooei at 14.36. Mohammad Soroush Hoseini topped the 28-competitor Pyraminx field with a 3.75 average, while Sam Shirzadian Moghadam won Clock with a 7.32 average. Under the silent focus of 3x3x3 Blindfolded, Baran Tahvildar took top honours with a winning single of 1:58.59, clear of Saeed Mostafavi Layegh at 2:22.00 and Lena Divband at 2:30.89.
With 36 total podium places awarded exclusively to Iranian solvers across 12 events, the two-day WCA competition underscored the depth of speed cubing talent in the region. Whether navigating the unforgiving three-solve formats or sprinting through short-puzzle brackets, competitors departed Semnan with dozens of personal milestones and fresh momentum for the next season of tournament play.
