Ablak Captures Eleven Event Victories Across Busy Weekend in AnkaraEnglish
Sixty-two competitors gathered in the capital as journeys converged on the TMMOB Teoman Öztürk Öğrenci Evi ve Sosyal Tesisi for Say Hi to Cubing in Ankara 2024. Across January 27 and January 28, cubers travelled from across the region to test their speed on the tournament floor in Ankara, Turkey. The two-day schedule delivered a sprawling program of nineteen rounds spread over twelve distinct disciplines, providing solvers of every specialty a reason to make the trip. What unfolded was one of the most dominant individual performances in recent memory.
Ahmet Çınar Ablak took center stage from the opening heats, setting the standard across almost every category on the schedule. In the premier 3x3x3 Cube event, which brought all 62 entrants to the tables over three stages, Ablak secured top honors by putting up an average of 7.28 seconds to lock in the headline 3x3 results. The podium featured Umut Coşan in second with an average of 10.50 seconds and Onur Karahan taking third at 10.64 seconds. Ablak had already demonstrated sharp form earlier with the best single of the weekend at 6.47 seconds.
The 2x2x2 Cube division featured a massive 50-person field and concluded after three rounds with Ablak standing atop the podium with a 1.98 average. He outpaced Emirhan Gökçe and Melisa Şen, who both registered 3.93 averages to share the remaining podium positions. In 3x3x3 One-Handed, Ablak navigated twenty-five competitors across a single round, posting an average of 13.74 seconds and a single of 10.92 seconds to lead Alim Jahangırov at 21.86 and Coşan at 23.21. For fans of classic Rubik's Cube variations, the precision demonstrated under one-handed conditions stood out.
Beyond the smaller puzzles, the larger big cube events demanded immense stamina from every competitor who took their seat. Ablak completed sweeps across the big cube spectrum, capturing 4x4x4 Cube with an average of 31.29 seconds ahead of Boran Doruk Adsay and Coşan, who both finished with 47.70 averages. In 5x5x5 Cube, Ablak recorded a winning average of 55.87 seconds, while Coşan earned second in 1:21.08 and Adsay followed in 1:32.43. The 6x6x6 Cube saw Ablak win in 1:43.25 over Coşan and Karahan, while 7x7x7 Cube ended with Ablak first in 2:33.00, Coşan second in 4:25.84, and Karahan third in 6:01.92.
