Dhaka Showdown Sees National Standard Fall as Sahil DominatesEnglish

Twenty-five competitors gathered in Dhaka, Bangladesh on June 16, 2023, turning CubeNation HQ into a pressure cooker of regional pride. The single-day Saramada Cubing Bangladesh 2023 brought together talent from across the area for five intense rounds across three classic formats. With club affiliations and local standing on the line, every turn carried extra weight as contenders pushed to establish supremacy in the national speedcubing hierarchy.

The centerpiece of the cubing competition was the classic 3x3x3 Cube, where regional rivalries flared from the opening scramble. Across two hard-fought rounds, the field traded blistering times before Taosif Amin Sahil seized command of the tournament. Sahil delivered a masterclass, securing the victory with a 7.71 winning average and a best single of 7.02. His performance in the earlier phases raised the ceiling of the sport entirely, writing a new chapter into the record books.

That historic benchmark came when Sahil registered a national record average of 7.50 in the 3x3x3 Cube, alongside an outstanding 6.45 single. The contest for the remaining spots on the podium proved just as tight. Md Tafsirul Islam claimed second place with an average of 8.25, while Farhan Tanvir Fahim secured third place with a 9.76 mark. The final 3x3 results demonstrated the incredible depth rising through the local scene as solvers pushed each other round after round.

Sahil extended his dominance into 3x3x3 One-Handed, an event testing pure dexterity and fingertrick precision across two rounds of play. Facing twenty-three entrants, Sahil claimed his second title of Saramada Cubing Bangladesh 2023 with a 12.70 winning average and an event-best single of 11.95. Md Tafsirul Islam gave chase once again, finishing as runner-up with a 14.53 average, while Mahbubul Hossain Robin earned third on the podium with a 16.69 average.

Beyond the speed disciplines, 3x3x3 Fewest Moves demanded pure analytical discipline over a single deliberate round. Shahir Chowdhury proved superior in the battle of efficiency, finding an optimal solution in just 36 moves to claim the championship among fifteen rivals. Sahil added another podium finish to his tally by taking second place with 44 moves, while Nakib Mahdy took third place with a solution of 47 moves, concluding the top-table honours.

Behind the fight for silverware, individual milestones defined the tournament floor. SK M. Rahman Mueid made an enormous leap in the 3x3x3 Cube, dropping their personal best to 8.30 seconds, an improvement of 46 percent over their previous best of 15.37, while also notching a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed of 14.85 to finish sixth. Afif Zahin Biswas made a massive stride in 3x3x3 One-Handed, recording a personal best of 15.49, which sliced 43.8 percent off their earlier 27.55 mark, alongside a fourth-place finish in 3x3x3 Cube. Khondoker Fazle Rabbi Sourov also shaved 36.8 percent off their one-handed best with a new mark of 30.51 and placed fourth in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves.

Other contenders across the Dhaka field achieved major breakthroughs during the packed day of speed cubing. Talha Harun improved their 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best by 30.5 percent down to 19.79, while Liyana Zaman dropped their 3x3x3 Cube personal best by 27.5 percent to 9.96. Tahmid Razeen Haque took fourth in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves and cut their one-handed mark by 16.8 percent to 40.56. Khandaker Raad Shahamat trimmed their Rubiks Cube standard by 16.1 percent to 15.75 and logged a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with 35.40, while Radiath Kamal Patwary achieved a personal best of 7.97 in 3x3x3 Cube, improving by 7 percent alongside a fourth-place finish in Fewest Moves.

Debutants also made their presence felt in this official WCA competition. Mouaz Safwan Huq contested their first career tournament, managing eleventh place in 3x3x3 Cube with a 11.16 opening mark and registering a first attempt of 33.40 in one-handed solving. Fellow newcomers Soumil Karmoker and Md Tahsan Islam tackled all three events, with Soumil posting an initial 15.53 on the traditional cube and Tahsan delivering a 10.93 opener.

All nine podium places across the three events went to representatives of Bangladesh, cementing the local talent pool at the conclusion of Saramada Cubing Bangladesh 2023. As equipment packed away and regional scores were settled for the day, the competition set a blazing standard for the remainder of the 2023 calendar, proving that the competitive drive in Dhaka continues to reach new heights.
