Bautista Bonazzola Dominates Fifteen Events at Salta al Cubo 2024English
Inside the Usina Cultural de Salta, the rhythmic clatter of plastic layers turning at top speed echoed through the halls across two intense days of solving. Tables were filled with timers, mats, and competitors scrutinising scrambles before bursting into rapid finger movements. Speedcubing in a WCA competition often brings frantic, high-octane bursts of motion across multiple puzzle formats, contrasting sharply with quieter disciplines that require meticulous planning, blindfold memorisation, or slow, calculated rotations on paper-and-pen style analytical challenges. Over the March 30 to March 31 weekend, Salta al Cubo 2024 brought 51 competitors together to tackle 15 distinct events spanning 26 rounds of rigorous action in Salta, Salta, Argentina.
The focal point of the weekend was the classic Rubik's Cube, where Bautista Bonazzola delivered a clinic in precision. Through three demanding stages of competition, Bonazzola set the pace with lightning-fast turns, securing the title in the 3x3x3 Cube with a winning average of 7.27 seconds and a best single of 6.69. Bolivia's Alejandro Marze Rossel secured the second step on the podium with an 8.72 average, while fellow countryman Josias Milan Sirpa Pinto locked down third place with a 9.70 average. The 3x3 results capped a massive 51-person field in the premier event of the tournament.
Bonazzola's dominance extended far beyond the traditional 3x3x3 Cube. The Argentine standout claimed first place across a remarkable seven individual disciplines during Salta al Cubo 2024. The heavier, multi-layered puzzles saw Bonazzola continue his sweep across the big cubes. In the single-round 6x6x6 Cube, he topped the leaderboard with an average of 1:37.83, finishing just ahead of Josias Milan Sirpa Pinto at 1:39.11 and Alejandro Marze Rossel at 2:04.68. He followed that performance in the 7x7x7 Cube, posting a winning average of 2:40.10 to hold off Sirpa Pinto's 3:04.06 and Fabricio Andrés Yañez Terrazas at 3:18.83.
