Specialist Disciplines Take Center Stage at SacQuiet Winter 2025 in SacramentoEnglish

Inside the halls of the La Sierra Community Center, the typical fast-paced clatter of plastic layers gave way to intense concentration and deliberate calculation. Rather than a standard tournament schedule, the tables held competitors mapping out elaborate sequences with pen and paper or sitting completely blindfolded before an array of puzzles. The focused environment set the stage for a unique day of speedcubing mastery in Sacramento, California, USA, where 29 competitors gathered on January 18, 2025, to test their mental endurance across four demanding non-standard events.

The diverse lineup of disciplines made SacQuiet Winter 2025 a distinctive stop on the regional calendar. Spanning 5 rounds of action, the schedule moved from single-cube blindfolded solving to the complex algorithmic planning of fewest moves, pushing beyond standard solving into large-cube blindfolded execution and multi-cube feats. This variety of challenges brought out specialists eager to showcase skills that operate far outside the standard speed cubing format, demanding exceptional spatial memory and analytical depth.

Graham Siggins delivered an exceptional performance across the blindfolded disciplines, claiming gold in three separate categories. In the 3x3x3 Blindfolded event, which drew 24 competitors across two rounds, Siggins secured victory with a top single time of 18.48 seconds in the final round despite a DNF average. Calix Tang earned second place on the podium with a 20.36 mark, while Anto Kam of Hong Kong claimed third place with a single of 21.56 seconds. The round showcased remarkable efficiency under blindfolds.

Siggins extended his dominance to the larger puzzles by capturing first place in 4x4x4 Blindfolded, leading the 14-person field with a winning single time of 1:42.31. Anto Kam secured second place on the podium with a time of 4:15.25, while Calix Tang took third in 4:24.45. To complete a triple-victory weekend, Siggins also claimed first place in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, successfully resolving 49 out of 64 cubes in 59:52. David Karalli followed in second place with 10 out of 12 cubes in 45:25, and Abhimanyu Singhal took third by solving 8 out of 9 in 46:47.

In the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves contest, Abhimanyu Singhal topped a field of 22 competitors to take the title. Singhal registered a winning average of 29.00 moves and a best single of 27 moves, navigating the classic Rubik's Cube with remarkable efficiency. Yuki Nomura of Japan captured second place on the podium with an average of 31.67 moves, and Brandon Lugtu earned third place with a 35.67 average. The meticulous event required an entire hour of deep analysis per attempt.

Beyond the top steps of the podium, several competitors achieved massive personal milestones and tackled new disciplines for the first time. Jacob Marinas logged an enormous breakthrough in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, cutting his personal best down to 56.95 seconds, an improvement of 42.2 percent over his previous mark of 1:38.53 on his way to a 5th-place finish. Samuel Martin achieved a major leap in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, recording a personal best of 34 moves that was 20.9 percent faster than his previous best of 43. Lucas Aubin also dropped his personal best in Fewest Moves to 30, an 11.8 percent improvement that earned him 4th place.

First-time attempts in complex events highlighted the ambition across the roster. Luke Satko took on four events, securing 4th in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind with a successful first attempt of 3/3 in 11:23, while also making his first official attempts in Fewest Moves with 39 moves and 4x4x4 Blindfolded in 13:13.00. Mason Wong improved his Fewest Moves best to 39, an 11.4 percent gain, and completed his first ever 3x3x3 Blindfolded attempt in 2:03.49. Hamza Hafeez delivered a successful first Multi-Blind attempt of 2/3 in 24:24 and a first Fewest Moves mark of 38. Dewei Tan debuted in Fewest Moves with an impressive 30 moves to finish 7th, while Kaoushik Murugan also completed his first attempt in the event with 37 moves.

By the close of SacQuiet Winter 2025, competitors representing the United States, Hong Kong, and Japan had collected podium honors across the specialized disciplines. With 9 podium finishes for the USA, 2 for Hong Kong, and 1 for Japan, the gathering proved how much depth and passion exist within the niche corners of the community. As another cubing competition concluded, the diverse results reflected a successful test of memory, technique, and problem-solving at this memorable WCA competition.
