Brennen Lin Takes the Crown at Rubik's x Speedcubing Canada All-Stars 2023English

Twenty-eight competitors assembled in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 25, 2023, for a high-intensity showcase of pure mechanical precision. Large twisty puzzles demand intense stamina, as long solves in big-cube categories test mental focus over hundreds of turns. At this gathering, that same rigorous endurance was condensed into three relentless rounds of traditional 3x3x3 speed cubing, where even the smallest slip over multiple phases can completely unravel a weekend campaign.

Hosted at the Spin Master Toronto venue, the Rubik's x Speedcubing Canada All-Stars 2023 narrowed the spotlight down to a single core discipline across three elimination stages. Speedcubing at this tier requires athletes to maintain peak processing speeds while executing turns at lightning rates. Every solve contributed to a running test of consistency, pushing competitors to manage nerve and mechanical execution across repeated attempts at the classic Rubik's Cube.

The 3x3 results reached their peak in the final round as Brennen Lin secured first place for Canada. Lin delivered a decisive winning average of 6.38 seconds, anchored by a best single solve of 6.04 seconds during the round. His steady cadence across all five attempts kept him clear of the chasing pack, showcasing the resilience needed to manage high-stakes pressure at a premier cubing competition.

Morgan Yeh applied constant pressure throughout the final flight, earning second place on the podium with a 6.54 average. Fellow Canadian Bill Wang rounded out the top three by capturing third place with a 6.92 mark. The trio completed an all-Canadian podium sweep, concluding an elite display where mere fractions of a second separated the top placements on the official scoreboards.

The tournament also generated significant movement in the record books for Canadian speedcubing. Bill Wang established a Canadian National record average of 5.88 seconds during the competition, having also logged a blistering 5.55 single. Morgan Yeh contributed a top single of 5.48 alongside a 6.64 average, while champion Brennen Lin added a 5.65 single to go with his earlier 6.74 average.

Beyond the podium battles, several participants made substantial personal strides that the final medal table does not fully capture. Leading the breakthroughs, Arhaan Sareen notched a massive personal best single of 4.95 seconds, which improved upon his previous best of 5.29 by 6.4 percent, on his way to a 5th-place finish. Burno Li Chak Kwan secured 4th place overall with a 7.25 single and 7.57 average, while Matthew Lee finished in 6th place behind a 6.76 single.

The depth of the field showed across every tier of the standings as competitors maximized their single-event schedule. Max Xiong earned a 7th-place result, Stanley Wang achieved an 8th-place finish with a 6.47 single, and Ryan Wu locked in 9th place while recording a 6.86 single. Larry Shi secured 10th place behind a 7.17 personal best solve, and Jonathan Esparaz finished 11th overall to cap an exceptionally tight mid-table group.

Additional notable marks included Jeriel James Thomas claiming 12th place with a 6.53 single, alongside Max Sun logging a 7.46 single and 7.91 average. The Rubik's x Speedcubing Canada All-Stars 2023 delivered a focused, dramatic contest from the opening phase to the final turns. With national records rewritten and personal bests lowered, the Toronto WCA competition demonstrated the depth of talent driving the scene into the next competitive cycle.
