Big Puzzle Tests and Rapid Duels Define Rondon Cube 2023English

Inside Centro Poliesportivo - CEIPC, the tables were set and the timing equipment stood ready as twenty-seven competitors gathered for a focused day of solving. In Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso, Brazil, the atmosphere was defined by the steady rhythm of twisting plastic and the sharp snap of hands landing on timers. Rondon Cube 2023 brought together a dedicated field on November 19, 2023, offering a full slate of challenges that ranged from lightning-fast sprints to tests requiring sustained concentration across complex puzzle layers.

Solving larger puzzles demands a distinct kind of mental and physical endurance. Unlike smaller mechanisms where pure reaction speed dictates the outcome, events like the 4x4x4 Cube require builders to manage extensive piece reduction, track multiple edge pairings, and maintain high turn speeds through dozens of turns. That stamina was put to the test in the four-layer division, where seven competitors faced the day with deep focus. Managing fatigue and avoiding late-solve parity mistakes formed the central trial of the event.

Caio Cesar Martins Borges rose to the top of the 4x4x4 Cube contest with remarkable poise. Delivering a best single of 1:03.25, Borges secured the title with a winning average of 1:13.91. Davi Dias de Oliveira mounted a strong challenge to take second place with an average of 1:17.85, while Luan Ferreira earned third place with a mark of 1:51.27. It was an exhaustive showcase of control that highlighted how managing the heavier hardware separates contenders in big puzzle formats.

The 3x3x3 Cube contest, the heart of any speedcubing event, extended across two rounds and produced intense battles on the main stage. Borges continued his winning form, capturing the 3x3 results crown with an average of 12.39 in the final round alongside a competition-best single of 11.61. Oliveira took the runner-up spot on the podium with a 14.69 average, followed closely by Matheus Gomes Almorone Azevedo in third at 14.92. The classic Rubik's Cube division proved to be a fitting showcase of pure efficiency.

Oliveira found his own dominant stride in the shorter and asymmetric formats, sweeping the remaining events on the schedule. In the 2x2x2 Cube, he locked in victory with a 5.31 average and a 3.64 single, edging past Borges who logged a 6.13 average and Fernando Yuji Takemori Avalos who took third in 6.17. Oliveira then demonstrated supreme dexterity in the 3x3x3 One-Handed event, taking first place with a 29.93 average and a 27.41 single. Borges finished second at 52.07, and Ghabryel Barroso Moraes claimed third at 59.89.

Beyond the podium battles, Rondon Cube 2023 showcased major breakthroughs from competitors taking on ambitious new challenges. Mauricio de Melo Santos entered three events and delivered a standout 3x3x3 personal best single of 13.78 seconds, marking a 10.1 percent improvement over his prior 15.32 mark, while also recording his first ever attempt in 3x3x3 One-Handed at 1:08.11 and 2x2x2 Cube at 6.12 to earn a best finish of 5th in one-handed. In his first WCA competition, Vinícius Gabriel Santana Santos took on four events, securing 4th in 4x4x4 with a first attempt of 1:48.40, alongside initial marks of 1:14.87 in one-handed and 7.96 in 2x2x2. Guilherme Borges also debuted across four events, finishing 7th in 4x4x4 with a 3:32.83 first attempt, plus first attempts of 39.47 in 3x3x3 and 12.68 in 2x2x2.

The depth of progress continued across the rest of the newcomer field. Rafael Menezes Veiga tackled three events in his debut, securing 9th in one-handed with an opening mark of 3:57.93 alongside first attempts of 20.64 in 2x2x2 and 57.74 in 3x3x3. Allan Furini entered three events for his first competition, placing 6th in one-handed with a 1:05.60 attempt, as well as 12.34 in 2x2x2 and 32.16 in 3x3x3. Dália Fiuza dos Santos placed 5th in 4x4x4 with a debut time of 2:12.92, pairing it with first attempts of 11.20 in 2x2x2 and 26.23 in 3x3x3. Jhonathas Willian Pimenta Redlinski de França posted first attempts of 39.15 in 3x3x3 and 13.12 in 2x2x2 for a 13th-place finish, while Stefany Mendes da Cunha completed her first attempts at 1:28.85 in 3x3x3 and 34.49 in 2x2x2 to place 18th.

The one-day cubing competition served as a vital milestone for the speed cubing scene in Mato Grosso throughout 2023. Over the course of five rounds and four events, the athletes produced moments of technical precision and shared milestones across every division. As the tables cleared at Centro Poliesportivo - CEIPC, Rondon Cube 2023 drew to a close, leaving a strong standard of performance for the region's solvers as they look ahead to the next season of competitive play.
