Regionales Santander 2024 Brings High Stakes and Tight Rounds to PiedecuestaEnglish

A razor-thin margin of two hundredths of a second decided the premier event at Regionales Santander 2024, where Brayan Alexander Sandoval Camacho took top honours on the classic Rubik's Cube with a 10.65 winning average to Juan José Ramírez Beyaert's 10.67. Held at the Centro comercial Delacuesta in Piedecuesta, Santander, Colombia, from October 12 to October 14, 2024, the WCA competition welcomed 35 competitors across 16 events. Over the course of 30 rounds, the tournament pushed participants through varying round structures, from three-round marathons to high-pressure single-round finals.

The 3x3 results capped three rigorous stages of speedcubing, where Brayan Alexander Sandoval Camacho logged the weekend's best single of 8.58 before securing the title, with Yonatan Samuel González Velasco earning third place with an 11.71 average. The tournament format placed heavy demands on adaptability, as 34 entrants battled through multiple heats in the main event, while other disciplines forced solvers to produce immediate results in single-round shootouts where there was no room for error or second chances.

Shorter format brackets produced equally intense finishes. In the 2x2x2 Cube, Cristian Castellanos Guevara emerged victorious with a 3.06 average and a 2.57 single across three rounds, leading Juan José Ramírez Beyaert at 3.72 and Nicolás David Lozada Rodríguez at 4.26. Over in Pyraminx, Jerónimo Espinosa captured first place through three rounds with a 4.70 average and a 4.11 single, narrowly edging Juan José Ramírez Beyaert who finished on a 4.77 average, while Haiver Lenin Reyes Garcia took third at 6.37.

Events with shorter cut structures and fewer rounds tested speed cubing specialists across diverse mechanics. Cristian Castellanos Guevara claimed a second victory in the two-round 4x4x4 Cube with a 47.75 average and 43.75 single among 21 competitors. Gabriel Enrique Amaya Puello navigated two rounds of Megaminx to win with a 1:09.60 average and 1:08.45 single. Meanwhile, Clock and Skewb each ran three full rounds, with Jerónimo Espinosa securing Clock with a 7.13 average and Nicolás David Lozada Rodríguez topping Skewb with a 5.66 average.

Away from the top of the podium, several participants marked significant personal milestones across the schedule at Regionales Santander 2024. Wilson Colmenares took on seven disciplines, setting a Clock personal best of 17.09, which was 58.9 percent faster than his previous mark, while making his first ever attempts at 5x5x5 Cube with a 2:38.60 and Square-1 with a 1:45.64 on his way to 12th place in 5x5x5. Dilan Stiven Colmenares Hernandez entered five events, logging his first official attempts at 3x3x3 Cube with 37.78, Skewb with 16.16, and 2x2x2 Cube with 10.73. Jose Estiben Jaimes Briceño tackled six categories, taking his first attempts at 4x4x4 Cube with 1:41.53 and 3x3x3 One-Handed with 52.92, while dropping his 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 44.4 percent to 4.17. Juan Felipe Velazquez Bermudez achieved major progress across all three of his events, improving his 2x2x2 Cube personal best to 4.23 by 53.2 percent, his Pyraminx mark to 8.16 by 26.3 percent, and his 3x3x3 Cube time to 18.95 by 11.9 percent.

The competitive slate concluded with Brayan Alexander Sandoval Camacho adding a win in 3x3x3 One-Handed with a 17.34 average and 13.32 single across two rounds. Across all sixteen events at Regionales Santander 2024, Colombian competitors accounted for all 52 podium positions awarded, reflecting a competitive weekend where tight round formats, single-attempt finals, and multi-stage tournaments brought out decisive performances across the board.
