Ben Timmons Masters Blindfolded Puzzle at Rebel County Colours 2025English

Ben Timmons delivered the standout performance of the weekend in Charleville, Cork, Ireland, solving the 3x3x3 Blindfolded discipline with a winning single of 49.85 seconds. Blindfolded solving demands intense memorisation and composure under pressure, as competitors must internalise the piece layout before donning a blindfold to execute their solution purely from recall. Timmons stood out as the sole competitor to break the one-minute mark in the event across two demanding rounds, securing the top step of the podium ahead of Rían Burke with 1:38.07 and Chris O'Shea with 2:08.58.

Held across September 27 and September 28, Rebel County Colours 2025 gathered 77 competitors at the Charleville Park Hotel. The weekend featured 11 events spanning 23 total rounds of official speedcubing, offering a complete showcase of precision, speed, and versatility across both standard and specialised formats. The high concentration demanded by memory-based events set a competitive tone that carried through the entire program of this 2025 WCA competition.

Oscar Green proved equally dominant across the short-format rotation. Green clinched victory in the signature 3x3x3 Cube event, posting a winning average of 7.86 seconds and a best single of 7.10 seconds across three rounds of play. Green's 3x3 results kept him clear of fellow Irish finalists Iollan Walsh, who took second with an 8.91 average, and Odhran D'Arcy, who finished third with 9.05. Green also took first place in the 2x2x2 Cube with an average of 2.10 seconds, and added a third title in 3x3x3 One-Handed with an average of 14.31 seconds.

The larger puzzles featured fierce clashes across multiple rounds. Ben Timmons expanded his gold-medal tally by sweeping the big cubes, winning the 5x5x5 Cube in an average of 1:03.06, just ahead of Ukraine's Mariia Lozova at 1:04.68 and Mongolia's Namuun Natsagdorj at 1:06.83. Timmons then locked up the 6x6x6 Cube crown with an average of 1:57.72. Lozova answered with a commanding performance in the 4x4x4 Cube, taking the title with an average of 31.31 seconds over Natsagdorj's 34.87 and Timmons's 36.86.

Beyond the top podiums, the cubing competition delivered massive personal milestones for numerous contenders. Aoife Dowling took on five events and made enormous strides, dropping her 2x2x2 Cube personal best to 4.06 seconds, a 66.6 percent improvement over her previous 12.16 mark. Patryk Hunia cut his 4x4x4 Cube personal best by 54.2 percent down to 46.94 seconds, securing an 18th-place tournament finish. Ali Rezaeizadeh improved his 3x3x3 Cube mark by 52.8 percent to 19.46 seconds, while Sahil Belmonte improved his Clock personal best by 51.3 percent to register 14.39 seconds.

Other competitors took on brand-new territory across the weekend tables. Ollie Bacon tackled eight events, placing sixth in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a first ever attempt of 3:27.21. Tiarnan Hogan entered nine events and logged maiden attempts in both Square-1 at 41.52 seconds and 6x6x6 Cube at 4:21.16, alongside a 23.1 percent Clock improvement to 12.31 seconds. Debutants made their mark as well; Sarah Francis Boyne completed her first official Rubik's Cube solve at 26.17 seconds, and Jack Spillane recorded his first 3x3x3 One-Handed attempt at 1:16.76.

Speciality categories rounded out the busy timetable with high-octane speed cubing action. Rían Burke secured the Square-1 championship with a winning average of 10.29 seconds and a single of 7.81, leading James Hughes and Ben Timmons onto the podium. In the Clock event, Jack Corr took victory with a 3.18 average, besting Burke's 4.13 and Natsagdorj's 4.35. Chris O'Shea secured the Megaminx title with an average of 51.47 seconds, and Ronan Finke took the Skewb title averaging 2.52 seconds.

The international spread among podium finishers added prestige to the gathering, with Ireland taking 24 podium spots, Mongolia earning five, and Ukraine claiming four.
